2015/16 Build options

Recommended Posts

I currently have a nightmare 2014 1500 Silverado 5.3 that has been in the shop over 60 days, a head job, a radiator, a new motor and had the motor shimmed numerous times for vibrations and it's still not right and I just hit 1 yr and 20k miles. My current offer from Gm is that I bend over the barrel and pay the sticker difference on a new truck with the option to order. So now it's the decision on a 1500 or a 2500 w/ 6.6. I haul loads of fire wood quite often and I'm not sure the 1500 would hold up to the whole using at as truck thing. I'm just not sure if I want to jump up to the 2500 diesel or not? It will also make at least a 100 mile round trip a day and I'm wondering about the mileage and warranty and all the other factors. If anyone has any advice or input I would greatly appreciate it.

The new '16 k2 1500 trucks are still the same except a fascia change so you'll still get vibes and such. If you can budget the dmax then go for it! Some k2 HD owners have also reported some vibes in their trucks as well. Guess it's still a chance you gotta take

Ive tried changing tires and not much help the next option was helper bags but the truck fell apart too fast. The thing that scares me is I had 6 2015 1500 trucks with less than 3K miles for loaners in the 60 days and 4 of 6 had the vibration and it drove me nuts

Anyone have any fuel mileage on the 2015 6.6

Before I tuned/delete City mileage average was 17 mpg. Currently I'm getting almost 19 in the city and I drive the sh!t out of it. No significant highway mileage to report.

Same chassis and drive train as the other 11+ dmax's.

It really depends on what they are doing -- speed, load, starts and stops, etc.

Mostly as a rural daily driver, the 15 6.2/8speed is getting better mileage than the LML it replaced. Rides nicer, but now where near the towing ability of the Dmax.

My 2015 dmax is getting approx 16 - 17 mpg around town and 20 - 21mpg on the highway. Loaded, pulling a 10,000 lb 5th wheel, it's getting between 12 -13 mpg. For comparison purposes, my previous 2014 1500 6.2/Max tow got about the same highway mileage, but was far less when around town (approx 15 mpg) , or when towing my previous, lighter trailer (approx 10-11 mpg). And diesel fuel is far cheaper than the premium fuel the 6.2 required.

A 1500 is a car with a washable trunk.

It is not a truck.

I made the mistake of buying one a couple of years ago as my winter plow truck and to do some light towing.

The rear suspension won't take a loaded trailer without dragging on the ground. I installed a set of Timbrens which took care of the sag, but also dropped the load directly on to the rear end. The ride was teeth jarring.

I dumped it for a 2500 HD gas, and the ride is much better than anticipated. The more I load the rear, the more car like the ride. It's a truck, not a wanna be truck.

There is a place for half ton trucks. They are a very nice riding vehicle that can haul some groceries or a lawn mower. They are not trucks by any stretch on the imagination.

Diesel on the other hand IMHO is a towing option. I currently own a Ford Super Duty diesel. I use it as my summer DD. Once deleted, it's a great mileage truck and will tow the world. Is it pratical and cost effective if you don't use it for either towing or a high mileage keeper?

No.
