2006 2500HD will not start

Question

Hi, I am broke down, I got a 2006 Chevy 3/4 ton that will crank but not put spark to the plugs or show anything on the injectors with the noid light. I got pressure on the fuel rail, I got oil, I got a check engine light that is on when key is turned but its been on for years, it throws a P0030 code but its done that for tens of thousands of miles and its the only code it shows. I had another crank shaft pos ind so I switched it, I went through the wiring harness looking for bad spots, found some mouse damage under the fuse box and fixed the wires, nothing was welded together so I think it was just insulation damage. I did find some water in the main blue main connector on the computer up front, I blew it out and its air drying. I tried multiple GM made keys, I switched the relays, I changed the fuses although none were blown. I am just at a complete loss here so if someone can help I would much appreciate it. This is my main vehicle, Thanks.

Hmm. How is your blue connector so wet all the time? Is the orange rubber seal around the outside of the plug missing? You can pop the blue plastic cover off the pins so you can hopefully clean them and dry it out. Worst case you pull the gray cover off the wire side and then with the blue cover removed you could push the corroded pins back out of the connector and membrane and then do whatever you can to clean them. Absolute worst is cut the worst pins off and get new pins to crimp on. Outfits like Westech sell pins gm uses on those wires. How does the computer look inside it's connector port? Is it corroded too? This sounds like a real mess lol.

My truck could have something in the tank honestly.... even a handful of mud could have been stuffed down there. Your issue is a lot worse than that!

My seal was still good as far as I can tell, its kind of a mystery how it got so wet and probably 2 inches of the aluminum case has corrosion on it on the inside. After considerable drying with heat and air, it seems to be working now. I bought a tube of Dielectric grease but have not decided if I should use it or not as originally it did not appear to have any. Thanks

Thanks guys, OK, After running a fan on the plugs for several hours last night I hooked them back up and bingo, it started right up and ran fine, I killed and started it several times, everything seemed like it should. The crank sensor was out of another running 6.0 so maybe it was already programed? Anyway, it worked. Now the bad news, first thing this morning it didn't even crank and it always did that before, I took the two connectors back apart and sprayed electric contact cleaner in them, and sprayed it out with air, then it cranked again but everything was like before with the check engine light on and just cranking and no starting. It wasn't throwing the usual code either, it acted as if it wasn't hooked up so I figured it was the connector again. I unhooked them and put a box fan blowing on the area all day so hopefully it will dry it out, I assume overnight the moisture came out with it closed up and caused the same problem? It doesn't look like the most thought out location for that unit. Does anyone know of what I can clean the prongs that have a little bit of white corrosion with? I don't want to melt any plastic or seals. Thanks again.

Well that's the shits lol... so it is the moisture. You can buy electrical contact cleaner and it will displace water so that might be a route you need to take. Isn't troubleshooting fun lol. Pretty sure someone vandalized my Blazer and dumped something in the fuel tank... or siphoned it and the gauge doesn't work... one or the other. Gas cap was missing and drivers window was broken out of it... Luckily I have to pull the tank to fix the filler neck that leaks anyhow....

If you changed the crankshaft pos sensor that you will most likely need to have a crank relearn done. From my understanding that can only be done with a Tech II scanner from a shop or dealer.

With the engine running sure.... can't do it when it won't start I the first place.

If the pcm connector was full of water it could have easily shorted tell computer out. With the pcm reconnected now can you pull data from it? A good scan tool will likely be invaluable here. If the engine isn't showing the pcm it is cranking it won't give fuel or spark.

I have used the water displacing contact cleaner but it doesn't seem to help much, also the white corrosion keeps returning on the blue plug. The weird thing is, now I can dry it out, plug it back together and crank and the starter no longer kicks out after a few seconds, I can crank until I release the key? Then its over, I have to take it back apart and dry and clean and then later it resets itself or something because it will crank. Many people have told me it will crank without the PCM working but I have found that if you unplug it there is no cranking or much else.

Sorry to hear about your gas tank, I am glad they didn't dump sugar down it. :-(
