Tires

Hi,

I have 295 70 R 16 Toyo Open Country RT's on my 09 Silverado 3500 hd and want to put 295's on my new just bought '15 3500 hd same tire but this year is an 18" wheel.

Does anyone know what will fit in the wheel well without scraping? Especially with a plow on. My 09 scrapes a little in the front while plowing. Stock Michelins suck imo.

Thanks for any help.

The wheel size doesn't change the size of your tire. 295/70 is 295/70 no matter what the size of the hole is in the center.

The only thing the wheel size changes are sidewall height. There will be more sidewall on a tire made for 16" wheels because the hole in the tire is smaller. Overall installed height should be the same between the two trucks.

Not true. a 295/70/16 will be 2" shorter than a 295/70/18. The 295/70 only means that the tread width and aspect ratio (read: sidewall height) are the same. So, even though the sidewalls will be the same height, the new rims are 2" taller...which will make the overall height of the tires 2" taller.

I'm running 275/65/18's on my truck. They're 32.1" tall. The guys running 275/65/20's are running 34.1" tall tires. The difference is in the rim size.

To the OP....you might get by with a 295/70/18, but it will be close. A few guys are running them, but they've got leveling kits. If your plow squats the front a lot, they'll probably rub. A 275/70/18 or 285/65/18 will fit without any trouble though.
