Cutting exhaust tip

Recommended Posts

Just curious as the stock exhaust main pipe tapers before the actual tip is welded on from the factory. I got a aftermarket tip and want to cut it before the flanged portion. Do they do this per heat or back pressure? About to hack it off!!! Thoughts?!!!

It is for heat during regen. Saw pictures of one guy's bumper that caught on fire with the factory tip. Proceed at your own risk, seen numerous people do it but I personally would not.

I cut mine off about 3 inches past the vent holes (left them intact). I then installed a clamp on MBRP 5in to 6in tip to the remaining end of the stock tip. No issues after 1 year.

And this is what I decided to do, I got the 4" to 6" to cut way back. Then decided yesterday to keep the 5" oem tip intact and just cut it back to add the 5 to 6. Thanks for the input!!

What length did you get 12 or 18?

Cut my stock tip off about 4inches in front of stock vent holes and bolted up new 5 to 6 mbrp 18". Looks better then I expected really nice!

I was really surprised as well. For how easy it was you can't beat getting rid of that ugly tip.

And if anyone is interested I received another tip for some reason. Same as in the pics above on my white truck. $75 shipped or I can just return it. PM me.
