Updating MyLink from home?

Recommended Posts

I was able to load two updates on my wife's car in the year we owned it, guess I got lucky. I do agree Ford isn't much better but at least the feature to load your own software is there.

How were you able to load updates? What kind of car are we talking about?

I updated the sync in my 2013 F150 once...... it rectified the Bluetooth auto connect lack thereof feature the truck had new...... but then started freezing and not responding to commands about every 3 weeks after that like clockwork to where I had to pull the fuse in the kick panel to reset it. Ford/Microsoft had no fix for that....... I traded that truck for my 15 Silverado......... that was one of its problems... and it was the most minor problem.

Worked great the first month, now the wife's IPhone as well as mine won't connect through two different cables, the Bluetooth won't connect while I'm sitting in the driveway, then once in motion I get the "not while in motion" warning. What an extreme disappointment. Am I the only one since December 15?

I know this thread is old but I don't have anywhere else to turn. I have a 2016 Silverado. It does have a selection in settings that says software update. But it says before I proceed I need to make a backup of my software onto a USB stick. So I put in my 32 gig USB stick and it just comes up with an error... every time. Has anyone gotten this to work

Also wondering if anyone with a 2016 has taken it to the dealer to get the new update that come out in the 17. I read they had quite a bit of features like managed WiFi blah blah blah

I thought I read somewhere that mylink is open source software. so there has to be a way to add/upgrade software right?

Being Open Source doesn't always mean you can do anything with it, Example Android for phones, known as open source, but your at the complete mercy of Google what can be done to Android's source code, And it's almost nothing other than adding apps unless you hack Android's source code (Or jailbreaking a iPhone), My Link will be the same way, and you WILL void the warranty messing with it.

I have nothing against hacking phones, game consoles, etc, done it myself in my younger days but messing with the my link to me is asking for trouble. This thing pretty much controls the whole truck and if you screw it up then there is no easy fix. Leave it be and just enjoy driving your truck.

I suppose I’m in the minority here for causally enjoying the interface GM provides. It’s much better than my previous 2913 Jeep, my wife’s previous 2013 Ford Edge, or her current 2015 Durango.

I find the GM software to be the most intuitive, reliable, and best looking.

Pish posh. Talk about low standards.

I talked to my dealership and they said that they can do the update for $110. Something I could download and install in minutes if they let us. I think I would be better off replacing it with an Android double din system.

I guess they're concerned about a user "bricking" the system during an update...who then is responsible to fix?

If you put your infotainment system in developoment mode, it will tell you the version numbers of the various pieces of software.

Yes, it is open source software. It is published on the web, I have seen it.

There is a site where you enter your VIN and it will tell you all the software updates that are available for your vehicle: https://tis2web.service.gm.com/tis2web

With a 2-day subscription to AC Delco and the right piece of hardware (J2534 pass through device), you can actually download the needed software and do it yourself: https://www.acdelcotds.com/acdelco/action/subscribehome
