Intellibeam wont activate

Recommended Posts

I have a 2016 Yukon and the Intellibeam wont activate. The following is what my manual says.

"To enable the IntelliBeam system, with the turn signal lever in the neutral position, turn the exterior lamp control to AUTO. The blue high-beam on light should appears on the instrument cluster when the high beams are on. Also, the system only turns on the high beams when driving 25mph"

I've tried everything and the icon indicating intellibeam is on will not come on. I've verified on my build sheet and the fog lights are not on. Any ideas? One shouldn't need to post in a forum how to use the feature of their vehicle.

Utemachine, I am not sure if this is the case on your Yukon but even though my build sheet online from the GMC website with my VIN # stated it had Intellibeam, my direct call to GMC today I was told it's not equipped with Intellibeam. This was one of the reasons we purchased the Denali XL. I have called the dealership already. I don't feel this is the dealership issue but more GMC issue. Everything I can find about the 2016 states it is standard equipment and not even an option. I am not happy since this was a feature that we loved on our Escalade ESV. Not sure what my next steps are going to be but I might make them take the vehicle back.

Finally fig’d out how to turn on the IntelliBeam system. Manual not so Intelli helpful. Found a blurb on a Cadillac site, one poster said he sat in a dark garage – and hit the flash-to-pass twice, then high beam once. So I sat parked in the dark and tried the 3-step method - That did it! The 2017 Silverado Owner’s Manual clearly says hit the high-beam twice – that does NOT do it!

To enable IntelliBeam system (with head-lamps in auto):

Hit the flash-to-pass twice, then high beam once.

The IntelliBeam indicator is located down in the lower part of the tach – to the right of the head-lamps on symbol. Even the symbol is different than the 2017 manual, the “A” is actually fully inside the symbol.

The IntelliBeam indicator is green in color. (And smaller than the blue high-beam indicator up in the H2O temp gage).

If you use flash-to-pass while driving, you do NOT lose the setting. (Manual again in error).

If you manually turn on the high-beams you lose the symbol, and would have to reset.

If you turn on the fog lights you lose the symbol, but when you turn the fog lights off it comes back.

If you turn off the truck – the setting remains when started again.

I am constantly re-enabling this from using the manual high beams. When I realize that it isn't on and try to turn it on the highway while I'm driving, people think I'm nuts with all the "flashing" that I'm doing. It's almost a safety issue as I needlessly blind other drivers while trying to turn the auto mode back on.

There should be a simple dash button to enable this. Press once to engage and have it stay engaged. Press again to turn off. Shouldn't have to do the crazy flash to pass twice then high beam once nonsense!
