General Motors recently created a very detailed press release highlighting its dominance regarding on-board Wifi. The one thing GM leaves out of its promotional posts about its 4GLTE connectivity is what its vehicle owners pay for it. If you have it, and if you use it, would you be willing to share what you have been paying and give us a short note on how you use it? For example, do you use it yourself to connect to the internet and do searches or to use maps? Or, do your kids use it for entertainment like Youtube and games? If you have it, but opt not to use it that would also be of interest.

GM has sold more WiFi capable vehicles than the rest of the industry combined. GM touts the following stats about its customers' usage to date:

◾1.5 million hours of streaming HD video OR
◾48 million hours of streaming music OR
◾2.9 billion social media posts with photos

GM admits that Volt owners are the most likely users, but it sells waaay more trucks. If you have any information to share we would appreciate it. Use the comments section to reply. Thank You.

I have it and have used it in the past, but for the $30/month for 3gb, is way too expensive, considering that amount gets used up in about two and a half hours with two kids streaming vidies. So, to me it makes it pretty much worthless. I do have verizon, and I hear that with other carriers, the rates are less expensive.

I too am working on my promotional 3 gb but it is unlikely that I will add any to that. Why would I when for $10 or so a month I can share data from my 4G IPad which has a hotspot built in. There are certainly enough USB ports to charge the iPad.

If they had a plan that mimicked that cost maybe I would try it. The other problem for me is I think the hotspot is ATT and I have Verizon service, because ATT is terrible here.

I have it added to my ATT bill. It shares with my family plan for $10 extra a month. My wife used her iPad for a 700 mile trip recently and used much less than a gb. I have never gone over the limit and ATT has rollover so probably never will.

It would have been nice if GM had followed the Apple iPad model and let us choose the carrier. I'm with Verizon - I might have added it to my Verizon bill.

I added it to my ATT bill as soon as the trial was up. Using it with OnStar was terrible high latency. It took a lot of hops (try a tracert) before it ever made it out of the OnStar cage and onto the Internet.

In a normal month we use less than 1GB. On a recent trip from Galveston to KC, we used about 2GB catching up on phone updates and checking weather and just general web surfing after a week on a ship. None of the usage has ever put any strain on the 15GB limit on our 5 line ATT bill. We always carry over rollover data.

Our 2016

Silverado 3500 HD crew cab long bed 6.6L Duramax High Country came with a three month trail however I have not used the WiFi feature as our Verizon phones have built in hot spots. The cost is okay however it duplicates our phones. Perhaps in the future we could consider this feature depending upon lifestyles.

The Verizon fans need to realize that Verizon is NOT a technology friendly company. You'll never see their services on special setups like this. And as far as coverage, they are about to loose their edge on that (in the next year or two...)

I have verizon on my phone, but I've been in several areas where the ONLY cell access was ATT.

When Hurricane Matthew went through my area, the only towers that were working were ATT. Verizon was down for like a week!!! My wife and I did a lot of time in the truck because it was our only access to the internet.

I am a business owner, and we rely on the internet heavily. I parked my truck next to the warehouse with the ignition on and everyone in my office was going on the internet via my truck since Comcast was also down after the hurricane.

I like it because it gives me a backup plan. I'd never think about it until the storm happened.
