Nissan tips hat to Chevy, Ford, Dodge in new 90-second spot

Nissan is going full force promoting the all new Titan pickup. Yesterday the company released a 90-second video spot on YouTube that lets the world know it respects the pickup brands that have come before. In a weird way, it's almost as if Nissan is acknowledging the previous generation Titan was a sub-par effort and is pretending it never existed.

The video hits on a lot of emotional levels. It's a virtual tip of the hat to the the Big Three (most of whom have been producing pickup trucks since before Nissan was ever founded). It also is a sly way for Nissan to read a hand out to current Silverado, Sierra, F-150 and Ram owners. "It's ok, we're just like you!"

 

What do you think of this video? How will it resonate with current Chevy, Ford, and Ram owners?

Agreed - the new Titan has a lot of great features. Next step is to compare Customer Value. While that is an individual decision - add them all up and only time will tell if Nissan is actually able to get into the real Pickup Truck market. They'll have to tough it out for at least 5 years.

 

Customer Value - having a lot of "stuff" or "features" that a specific customer doesn't need nor want to pay for - does add much Customer Value for that customer. Things like Resale Value hold a lot of Customer Value for almost everyone. A very competitive initial purchase price will be very important to Nissan- they are not going to get many people to take the risk without a lot of up front reward.

 

I hope they do well - real competition is good for all of us. By the way - where is this truck really being made? Wonder what the domestic content is.

 

just my thoughts on the subject - right now I'm pretty happy with my Chevy..

I'd have to say I appriciate the commercial and it's not another dumb commercial with a half ton truck flat towing a Boeing 747 or cartoon animals driving it.. And I think Nissan builds a quality product, still don't know if I would buy a Nissan truck but I own a Nissan NV van which is built on the Titan platform and it has been extremely reliable and put to work hard.

I've looked at the Titan XD for a while now. At their current MSRP price point, you can go to Laura GMC, or other dealers that discount deeply and pick up a fairly well optioned 2500 Duramax with considerably more power and ability. At $5,000 less than a Duramax I can see a market.

  • These days when everyone is slinging crap at each other, I find it refreshing to see something that is respectful. I may not be buying a Titan, but I can appreciate that they know how they got to be able to successfully sell trucks in North America.

Owned armada first edition and had know problems for 12 years til I traded it. Nissan builds good product. The domestic three rebates their product just as much as Nissan. The only truck that doesn't is Toyota. I don't like the new truck and the bridge between light duty and heavy duty maybe the market they are targeting but how many buyers is that. Either you need a heavy duty truck or you don't. I don't think they will sale many we will see. It's difficult breaking into the segment. American products does it just as good as any foreign made product.....the issue only comes when it's time to trade it and the value isn't what those over the water is ( toyota) look forward to seeing what will happen with this truck. It's definitely no threat to the big three.

All I can say is, if GM continues to produce vehicles that squeak, rattle, burn oil, pulsate during breaking, wrinkle or split the dash depending on temperature, shut off without warning and kill bystanders and/or the driver, & scratch with a fingernail before the first oil change, all sold at the highest possible price, well then, maybe I'd try a Nissan (if not for their proprietary electronics that require a trip to the dealer after a simple o2 sensor change).

 

It's about time we have some new players on the field. Maybe it'll knock some sense into GM's quality control practices. God knows the bailout didn't. We need more than just Nissan, though.

The truck had most of these issues RIGHT OFF THE SHOWROOM FLOOR. 47 miles on the odometer with pulsating brakes. That's just poor QC, unless it was driven with the brake stomped to the floor the entire 47 miles.

 

Truck now has 85k on it ... I'll be shocked if I make it to 100k without any major breakdowns.

 

The dash issues happened much later. The new ones currently suffer from the dash problem ('14-'15). Ignition problems are ongoing with all of them from '07 onward.
