This week, GMC launched its new trim level of the Sierra All Terrain, the 2016 Sierra All Terrain X. The new X features more off-road capability than the current All Terrain which already comes standard with:

◾4WD with Eaton locking rear differential
◾Z71 Off-Road suspension package with Rancho monotube shocks, high-capacity air cleaner, Hill Descent Control and underbody transfer case shield
◾Rear Park Assist
◾Unique grille with body-color surround and tinted chrome accents; body-color front and rear bumpers (rear bumper with corner steps)
◾Spray-on bedliner
◾All-Terrain-logo instrument cluster
◾Inclinometer in the driver information center.

The 2016 Sierra All Terrain X adds the following equipment to that off-road and always useful list:

◾265/65R18SL Mud-Terrain-rated Goodyear Wrangler DuraTrac MT tires, designed for off-road competence in dirt, gravel and mud, with on-road composure in dry, wet and wintry conditions
◾18 x 8.5-inch black aluminum wheels
◾Sport side steps (black)
◾Bed-mounted sport bar (black) designed to support the accessory off-road LED lighting package
◾High-performance LED headlamps
◾Performance exhaust system, which bumps output of the 5.3L V-8 engine to 365 horsepower and adds an aggressive note
◾Body-color door handles and body-side moldings
◾Black exterior mirrors, belt moldings and B-pillars
◾Interior floor liners

GM will offer the 2016 Sierra All Terrain X in Onyx Black, Summit White, Stone Blue Metallic, Iridium Metallic, Crimson Red Tintcoat, and Light Steel Gray Metallic and begin sending trucks to dealerships this spring. GM has not said yet what the price of the truck will be, but if it is reasonable, would you give this new trim the thumbs up or down for off-road and general ownership?

Roll bar is not attractive to me. Remainder of the truck is cool. Duratracs are not mud tires, but seeing as GM thinks SRAs are AT why am I not surprised...

Truck looks good and there really isn't anything different about it compared to any other Silverado or Sierra.

Whatever that roll bar / light bar or whatever that ugly ass thing is, it ruins the look of the truck.

Anybody have any specifics on the rear "Eaton" locker, like which model it is and is it really different than the current rear Eaton locker?

Those side steps also take away from the off-road capabilities by lowering the ground clearance. With a truck marketed toward off-road use, GM should have used something like the AMP retractible steps. They retract and fit the body line nicely in the rocker panel area. That would have been a better option to gain/maintain ground clearance in that area.

So... side steps, duratracs, roll bar with lighting, and exhaust. Who reviews and approves these packages? :banghead: Funny thing is GM will probably try and get something stupid like 10K for this package too.

If you are going to put duratracs on an "All Terrain x" package, wouldn't you level it and put 285/65/18's under it at least?

A front leveling kit (at the least) would have made sence since this truck is specifically marketed toward off-road use. This is the type of vehicle that would greatly benefit from a factory 3" lift, lower gears, wider stance, and taller tires that reallt were All Terrain tires (BFG AT/TA KO's) like the old GM "ZR2" package that was offered on the S10-Blazer, S10-pickup, and GMC Sanoma.

My S10-Blazer with the ZR2 package was the best vehicle I've owned when it came to off-roading and driving in the snow. The thing was unstoppable and would go just about anywhere within reason of coures. The factory 3" of lift really helped and the higher and wider stance was perfect. I would love to see that package offered on the Silverado/Sierra and would own one for sure. GM has had quite a few ZR2 'concept' trucks over the years and it would be great to see them finally put it into production. It would do much better than this new truck with the 1990's style light bar/roll bar GM slapped on this new model.

The same G80 as almost every other truck they make has. It's literally an All Terrain with a light bar, tires, side steps and the valence taken off lol. Oh and don't forget the GM performance exhaust lol.

Places are saying it will be priced between $3000 and $3500.

The best part of that thrown together package seems to be the Borla (GMPP) exhaust. Everything else they can keep, especially that eye-sore of a roll bar they took from the 1980's.

Oh come on..... it's retro! Everything washed out from the 80's is getting to be cool again lol!
