Small tech review of 2015 Silverado HD LTZ and the frustrations

I have had nothing but problems with the radio in my truck from the day it was purchased. Well maybe a couple days in of ownership because I didn't know how it functioned at first. Since 11000k at the first service it has been reported numerous times to multiple dealers and multiple ambassadors over the phone. Multiple calls with interlink specialists etc stc and no resolution ever. I have been made to feel like an idiot on numerous occasions and can have service advisors and shop techs sit in the vehicle and duplicate numerous issues and I am told its just the nature of the beast. LOL.

Rattle in the door from certain frequencies is also my problem and they will not fix. I am talking at low sound levels as well. Yes it is just amplified at higher volume. My problem they will not repair. Next step if I don't deal it for a Ford I will pay myself for a stereo shop to repair with dynamat in the door.

Numerous upon numerous routing issues with the navigation, again my problem as this is a known normal occurrence.

My list goes on but my main pieve is the radio and how bad it functions. I use the vehicle a lot and know the ins and outs of this system well now. It is the biggest headache ever. I would much rather have a basic system that has none of these features so that it doesn't have issues period. I had a rental truck while mine was in for a coolant leak that has been to a dealer 3 times now, Once to look and no problem found but I returned 2 times for coolant fill up so yes it leaks I have stains in my driveway to prove. 2nd dealer because first has no clue. 75 km each way so I get a more reputable dealer and first stop found the leak..perfect. They order a hose clamp and have me return week later to have fixed. Get the truck back and next day smell coolant again. Awesome. Another 50-100 in fuel and what order me another hose clamp lol.

Get a call tonight and am told I have to disconnect my passengers phone so they can Facebook, email, text, doesn't matter if a passenger touches their phone you cannot listen to a radio station or XM with out a disconnect.
The ambassadors response tonight. Shut off bluetooth. We have I told her last week. You cannot charge the phone either. It must be blotch off and no cord connected.

What an awesome truck lol. I have requested a buyback and they will not look at this either.

Think I am going for a drive to FORD tomorrow.

Hope any person looking at this truck thinking the technology is good. PM me I will gladly take time out and explain how crap this system is. I will also post videos if requested.

I have upgraded iPhones at the dealers discretion and been told it is my outdated phone. I had large capacity iPhone 4S phones. Have upgraded to iPhone 6S phones at almost 2g's with large capacity. I am willing to spend if they make the system work. I have more than shown the willingness.

I have also not had a tire rotation with tires relocated to the correct positions after rotate. had to return to dealer to correct. They also did not correct tire pressures after rotation.

I had an alignment after a front level kit. Took them 6 hours truck over night and had to return next day to pick it up. Next day I pick it up and out of their driveway it immediately pulled to the right.

Booked at another GM dealership a week later soon as I could get there. I have reported printout of a bad alignment from previous dealer and Nothing done its my problem once again.

Next oil change tire pressures are adjusted incorrectly again. And filled with oxygen not nitrogen to top off so green caps are gone now at this point.

I have been to 3 dealers and everyone says how hard it is to get proper pressures set in PSI lol. Honestly its Easy.... buy a correct tire filler with a KPA gauge for what 50 bucks lol. Even if its a snap on and 200$ its their job buy the correct tools.

 

So my experiences are horrible, They will not fix the radio issues. Coolant leak they cannot fix with simplicity. Navigation system that does not work to my needs. It does work around town but just last week it routed crazy again adding time to the travel. I have been routed 2 hours out of route by this system. I use my iPhone for google maps now. Cannot touch any phone in the vehicle if it has been previously paired with the radio, or radio station is lost. Cannot answer phone while listening to the radio and then have the radio come back on after the hangup.

GM will not remove the radio and install a lower end radio, will not buy back the truck, will not fix the issues.

Can I afford to go and buy another truck today, unfortunately no, I am stuck with this crap and devoting more time than I did with my last '06 300000km truck. Pretty sad. It was also way more convenient dropping my truck off at a corner shop and having the repairs made out of my pocket. So far all I have is more miles and money out of pocket driving to try and find a competent dealership to fix my truck.

Here is an image of only one of our routing issues. It will not go from Windsor to Sarnia. Yes there is a main highway in between but you cannot see it at this zoom level. It will not acknowledge this highway when travelling to Sarnia. It will leaving the city sometimes if it feels like it that day.

I will be starting to post video and photos of some of the stuff this system does on a more regular basis. I have been taken advantage of on the purchase of this truck with a radio that does not function. I just hope to inform others before they make a purchase. I have since I purchased this truck with a factory navigation system gone out and purchased a garmin GPS so that I can be properly routed through the US without using my data. We compare routes all the time now between devices and the GM system is never at an advantage to use. Never.

My system works OK ... not a mess like yours. - I have a 5C

 

Have you contacted your local GM District Manager ? contact info is in the back of the owners manual ... if you do be very polite whereas they can make magic happen

Thank you. This is the level I would like to approach next. I have tried very hard to be polite with whom ever I speak with either in person or over the phone. But the frustrations is building.

I had to ask for the ambassador last night to call me back as I was ready to explode on the phone. I asked in the nicest manner I could and she knew I was extremely frustrated but did offer to return my call today. Will see.

I am going to try and set an appointment with the district manager in person to show them how this system operates in the real world. Thank you for this info once again. But I am running on a short wick now. I am tired of being told it is just how it is and technology changes. Sell me something that works as described and I will rave about it with positive reports.

I own a small business and what happens if I don't sell what my customer purchased...I don't get paid or I have to make it to what they wanted. Does not happen very often as I take pride in my work but when there is an issue I also stand front line and make it right for them.

I have 2 guys that regularly sit in my truck and can't believe what they see.

I watch the GM commercials or radio videos on youtube and wow it definitely does not show the hiccups that this system has.

Don't be in a hurry entering nav addresses either it takes some time for the mapping to load.

I have spent numerous hours before I purchased the vehicle as well learning the radio before ownership. It was definitely a major role in my decision to purchased this vehicle. My bad I should have looked at other manufactures systems and I should have asked for a demonstration before I signed. Lesson learned and the next sales rep is going to have to earn the sale. I knew more about the radio when I picked up the truck than the sales rep which is pretty sad. I have been assured many times that this is the latest and greatest lol.
