I'm looking to install a Kenwood single din stereo head unit in my 2006 Sierra, and I'm curious to know if its something that is easy to do yourself or if i should just take it in to a shop? Mainly just wondering if the wiring will be the same as stock and i can just plug and play, or if its not that simple. ALSO, I'm not too concerned about keeping the door chimes, steering wheel controls, and OnStar and all that stuff, so if having an easy install I can do myself means losing those features I'm still all for it, I'd just like to not spend $100+ for a shop to install it if possible.

Its pretty easy to install a deck in your truck if you have any experience with wiring. I highly suggest getting a wiring harness adapter/interface (walmart, best buy, etc.) and you will also need an antenna adapter (sometimes included in the kit). The interface will enable will have a retained power on so you don't need to run a accessory on wire. Does your truck have the bose system? If so you may need an interface as well (also available at walmart or best buy). Other than a dash kit, some butt connectors and a multi crimper/wire striper, your good to go!

If your still uncertain what you all need, you can go online to Crutchfield and fill in the blanks about your truck then go shopping for a deck, once it is added to the shopping cart, they will show you what harnesses/install kits are required.

Okay, thanks! Doesn't sound too bad.Crutchfield seems like the go to place for electronics.

They definitely are. They make it easy because they tell you everything you need without guess work. That's the only place I buy head units from.

So I ended up buying off amazon because the deck was $60 cheaper than on Crutchfield... Still used Crutchfield for finding out what all I need and even choosing which actual stereo unit to buy, their site is really really helpful.
