SULASTIC SHACKLES

Recommended Posts

Anyone purchase these yet? I was gonna replace all the oem shocks to get a smoother ride on my 2011 GMC SIERRA 2500HD. But I think I should purchase these new shackles first, then the shocks. Also I don't know which shocks to get, Bilstein 5100 or Rancho 9000XL for a smoother ride?

I would expect the shocks will make a bigger difference [assuming the old shocks are worn out] over the shackles.

I picked the RS9000XL's for my '04 Sierra 3500 over the 5100's because:

-they weren't that much more expensive

-they were adjustable

My truck rode really hard with the old shocks, and now, it rides much better. Initially, I had both the front and the back set to 1 (the lowest setting), but the front was kind of bouncy, dialed the fronts to 5, bounce is once and done.

With the Bilsteins, even though a lot of people like them for their truck, it amounted to:

-you like them

-you don't and have to live with them [as they are used and most places don't take returns on used parts]

Something to consider if you live in a rust belt area, the dial on the Ranchos will rust up. Also, instead of Bilstein 5100's have you looked at the 4600's? Many guys who carry heavy campers prefer them over the 5100.

The Sulastics are similar to the old Velvet Rides made by BF Goodrich back in the day. They make a BIG difference in ride...pricey, but worth it if you intend to keep the truck a while.
