92 GMC Sierra 350/5 Speed - Can I use a 2001 Chevy V6 5 Speed?

Recommended Posts

I'm going to pick up a 5 speed manual trans out of a 2001 Chevy Silverado with a V6. The seller says it will bolt right up to my 1992 GMC Sierra 350 5 speed manual without any issues. I just wanted to make 100% sure before I buy it.

Thanks!

there is subtle changes.

..and there is 350k miles with the supercharger sound of extra roller pin bearing (supposed to be the weak one) to "oh my god this is junk" (supposed to be the strong one).

find real part numbers. if it shipped as the real v8 one with your VIN... count on it being good.

metal base for the shifter seems to be a plague stumping big mouthed morons since the first new venture/get rag 5 speeds.

the plastic base shifter is real bad.

I am finding all the 5 speed trannies are gems...just the shifter base is junk.

Also, the real GM fluid..its expensive, and rocket science. Good stuff.

the fork changes...the good fluid does not care, it will last and last and last with any version.

I also deciphered them to be 12000 pound or more capable, and 450 ft pound.

They under rated them for 4 lo multiplier...

Lastly, Hurst for the ultimate win. I hope core-shifter makes more of them shifters. Strong billet metal base, genuine short throw.

I learned the the v6 is not balanced, they may have used the tranny to be a wobbling weirdo part of it all...cast shaft instead of compressed forged, or some other penny pinching fact.

I'd walk away from the v6 one.

My Big question is would the the V6 tranny take the tourqu??? If they are the same tranny I wouldnt worry about. If not you will be changing it again soon now you have paid for 2 trannys and have twice the labor and down time. Check the price difference and I bet they arent that far off if anny and go with what you know for sure will work the first time
