Wireless Charging Pad in 2016 Sierrra HD Console TOO SMALL!!

Recommended Posts

Anyone else buy a 2016 GM Truck with the Wireless charging pad in the console? I traded my 2015 Sierra Denali HD for a 2016 to get the upgraded headlights, revised steering, and the Wireless Charging Pad built into the Console lid among other things.

Anyhow, have the truck for about a month, and I just got around to buying a cover for my iPhone 6 Plus to make it wireless compatible. So the cover comes in, I install it on my phone, and go out to my truck to try it out, and find that it does not fit in the tray!! No way to make it work!!! So, I figure maybe they will add the wireless charging to the next generation phone and I will just have to wait for an upgrade. I take the cover off, and then realize even with NO cover on the phone, the charging tray is at lease 1/4" to narrow for the phone to fit flat (which it would have to do in order for the feature to work).
So, now I have a truck with a NEW feature that is obsolete before I even used it. What do I have to do, go back to an iPhone 3 in order to make this work? I love my GM trucks, I have had many since my first in 1988, but this is just a blatant oversight by whoever designed and approved the size of this tray!!!
Anyone think this is something we can take to GM and force an upgrade on a $68k truck???

You could use a phone the size of a phone instead of a tablet and all will be right in the world again.

Typical useless keyboard cowboy reply. What I choose to use for a phone is nowhere near a tablet, and probably 90% of the current smartphones are this size. ';m trying to make a point that when this feature was added to the truck, these phones were already on the market and popular. Now, go find your 2" flip phone and call someone that cares about your smart ass attitude.

Does your phone fit without a cover?

So go buy a phone that fits in the charging area. My 5 has no problem.

Or buy a wireless docking pad and set it on the dash or wherever you like.

Or you could go buy a truck that fits your needs. You're certainly not going to make gm upgrade the console

I have a Galaxy S5 with Spigen Slim Armor case. I fits almost perfectly in the opening. It did make me realize that I'll have to be aware of this when getting a new phone in a few months. Anything bigger will likely not fit with a case.

Can we start a list of phones that do and do not fit? So from what I see the Galaxy S5 fits with a slim case but not the note 5. So I would assume the Galaxy S6 would also not fit since they are roughly the same size as the note.

iPhone 6 Plus does not fit.... (Without case)

Samsung Note 3 does not fit.... (Without case)

Anything larger than 3"x6.75" will not fit.
