2016 Yukon XL Denali

Can the adaptive cruise control be switched off so I can just use regular cruise control? I have heard a few people say they don't like the adaptive and I am worried I won't like it so before I order it..... it would be nice to be able to turn it off and use regular cruise control. Thank you.

Also do you like the adaptive cruise control?

I have adaptive cruise on my 15 LTZ Hoe and I will never buy another vehicle without it if I can help it. It is so convenient not having to constantly adjust cruise speed up and down on long interstate highway trips, and in heavy traffic, as it automatically will brake as well. As far as I'm aware it cannot be deactivated to manual cruise. I really wish my '15 Silverado had it, I Love It!! best $1,000 option I have ever bought.

I do believe the Y66 adaptive cruise on the Denali is the same as the Escalades, as it can be set up to follow a car at a preset distance (Like my Tahoe) or it can also be set to follow by a set time interval in seconds.

Tried it for 500 miles on a 16 Yukon and hated it. Guess I don't drive in the type of traffic that this works with. Slows down way before you are close enough to pass the vehicle in front of you. Will actively brake when the vehicle in the outside lane, in a curve, is going slower than you (65 to 45 in a second is not fun). Disables itself entirely if any small amount of snow on the front facia.

Actively brakes to the set cruise speed after a passing event instead of just coasting back to the set speed.

If you like to drive at the slow speed on the expressway, this will oblige. If you never want to pass anyone. If driving scares you. If you have no depth perception. If you don't have curves or hills. If you never tow anything. Works great for all of those scenarios.

Simple fix for this is to have a button that disables the adaptive function and returns it to traditional cruise control. Then everyone is happy.

tried it on a new malibu seems to work decently, the lane assist thing that is supposed to keep you in your lane is stupid to me though

Can you adjust the 'follow distance' like with the warning system on the non-adaptive cruise GM vehicles?

On the 16 Yukon SLT I drove, there were three settings for follow distance. The owner's manual talks a little about the settings. In my use, the system kicked in at a distance of about 5 seconds from the vehicle in front of you and then would slowly close that gap until it reached the "follow distance setting" that you chose.

The nearest setting was close to 1 second behind the leading vehicle, the middle was 3 seconds. Not sure on the furthest, but seems like it was closer to the 5 second mark.

That's based on speeds of 60 to 80.

I didn't do a lot of time measurement at the closest setting, it was much too close for my comfort. The middle setting is where I did timing checks, but only by doing 1-one-thousand, 2-one-thousand. No actual stop watches were used ;-)

I thought that about the Lane Keep Assist on my Sierra when I got it, but left it on to give it a good try.

I'm now at about 12,000 miles and I think it's made me more careful about my lane position.

I find that it doesn't nudge until a tire is on a line. The Lane Departure Warning on the previous truck warned earlier - as a tire 'approached' a line.

It has definitely made me less lazy about signalling lane changes.

On day 1 I hated it. I wanted it to be an option if I wanted it but wanted regular cruise as an option also. In other words what I wanted was regular cruise with the option of turning adaptive cruise on or off. Well after using it and adjusting the distance I am now very impressed with it. I found that I was the adaptive cruise shutting off cruise and resuming constantly. Now with this it does this for me. It is pretty cool once you get used to it. Now I love it. Hard to change me into anything but this was a good change.

Hate it wish I could switch to regular cruise. Take many long rides from NJ toFLA i watch the road and change lanes without ever turning off the cruise control as i approach a car in front of me. at 80 mph it slows u down way before u need to even on the closes setting and it does it so slowly u don't notice it at first.

On a 2017 suburban premier its standard equipment. Maybe ill just cover the sensors.

The width of the follow beam seems to be too wide. Here in the mountains most any winding of the road makes it brake. On straight running it's fine, but doesn't seem to do well when the road isn't mostly straight. I would like to turn it off for some roads and leave it on for others....or be able to narrow the follow beam.

Follow on post as I learn this truck; set the follow distance to the shortest. As long as you pay attention it does just fine in mentioned 4 lane curvy roads. And then I let it handle speed right on down to a stop. It cut out at 6 mph, but braking and keeping distance until then. Just an FY'allsY. (That's the way we say it in the south.)

Don't have it on my sierra, but I had it on a CTS I rented for a week and put 1000 miles on it.

OMFG I love it. I've used other systems and the GM system is fantastic.

Wow does it take the stress out of traffic congestion. My first time using it in bumper to bumper traffic I felt tempted to light a cigar and drink some neat scotch

Hate it. If you are in traffic you should not be using cruise control!!! It slows down way to soon and then gooses the vehicle to get hack up to set speed. Terrible system for any qualified driver. At least make a software change to allow the system to be disabled for real drivers. I won't buy another vehicle with this system.

You can disable it. Just hold down the cruise button for like 3 seconds after setting it and it turns off the adaptive. It should tell you on the DIC how to do it.
