Concealed Carry Permit Tests

Recommended Posts

What do other states require to get your concealed permit?

I am upgrading my ND permit to the class 1 tomorrow (the original permit was changed to a class 2 because it was just an open book test to get it). Currently to get the Class 1 permit which is recognized in 40 states we need to go through a class ( typically 2-3 hours depending on the number of applicants), open book test which need to score perfect on questions 1-28 and can get 1 wrong on questions 29-35, range shooting which for a semiauto you need to fire 6 shots with strong hand, put new mag in and fire 6 shots with weak hand at target 7 yards away all in 50 seconds, and using both hands 6 shots standing, new mag and 6 shots kneeling at target 15 yards away in 50 seconds. you need to get 17 of 24 shots on a 8.5x11 sheet of paper. It just seems a little much just to be able to do what the 2nd Amendment already guarantees us.

Are other states requiring that much shooting and class time?

PA = go to courthouse/sheriff office, fill out paperwork, give to sheriff staff, pay $20.00, wait for background check (mine took <5 mins) and I walked out with my License To Carry Firearms (LTCF)

"A well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms SHALL NOT be infringed."

Being required to take any sort of a test is infringement, without question but they somehow get away with it. There is no requirement or any type testing standards in place to allow the people to exercise any other rights and there never will be.

The testing and whatever else certain States force people to do can be credited to the liberal politicians stomping on our 2nd Amendment rights over the years. They will continue to do their best to tramp on the entire Constitution and only cite it when it is to their benefit.

For the last several years liberal politicians have been attempting to restrict our rights even more and want to abolish them all together, this can not happen! Our 2nd Amendment is the only thing keeping us a free people and that's what these politicians hate, that's why they want to put their people in place to get rid of it.

If you haven't already done so, join the NRA. It's the largest and most powerful group that fights for our 2nd Amendment rights. The cost of membership isn't much and is well worth the few dollars.

It's not far fetched to believe gun confiscation is coming. It was done by force in New Orleans to all citizens when they were at their most vulnerable after a natural disaster. Their rights were trampled on, they were disarmed, left unarmed and helpless as they were being robbed and having their businesses looted. I was there, I witnessed it first hand and there were may of us LEO's who refused to take part and we were relieved of duty!

The military and private contractors were then involved, using force and breaking down doors without question. We can not allow this to happen, ever! It's been done on a small scale and they got away with it, a large scale confiscation can not be allowed.

For now, do what you have to do to get you carry license or permit. Learn how to use your firearms efficiently and stock up on ammo, you may need it!

Florida's weapon permit is a class (don't remember how long), maybe some live fire depending on where you take the class, and giving the state your monies. Also background, photo, and finger printing as well. Something might have changed in the 9+ years since I got mine. Permits as of a few years ago now last 7 years and all I had to do was send my monies and a check to renew it. Florida doesn't differentiate between semi auto and revolver and since it is a weapons permit and not a gun permit we can carry things other than guns.

I think 4 or 5 states are constitutional carry now so there's that.

In Kentucky we had to sit through a class, watch video's, multiple choice test and than go to the firing range. The sheriff in my small town taught the class. He sent our info to the state, after about a month and half our certificate came in the mail. The sheriff's office has your pictured license card. Take the certificate to them pay a fee and they give you your license.

In my opinion every state should require a class, some people can not safely handle a firearm and therefore need to be shown proper handling. I would hate to hear someone lost there life because someone CCDW didn't handle their weapon properly and kill someone by accident. I love hearing when someone get's their CCDW, we need more good law abiding citizens carrying firearms. Of course if a person does not want to carry a firearm that is your right as a law abiding American citizen.

We have to take a class here in Oklahoma ($75), 5 year license ($100) or two year license ($200), finger prints from sheriff ($25) and passport photo ($10). The class is mandatory 8 hours, gun range test if 50rnds shot at target 7y away. Just need to demonstrate that you can load your weapon and hit target. No scoring at all.

Very very similar to what I had to do in Michigan.

Texas was a 6hr theory and a written Test. After that it was a 50rd target at 5, 10 and 25yrds to see if you could group somewhat.

The guy next to me missed his target 3 times at 25yrds.....the whole thing. Yet still managed to pass.... Dont ask me how. I would have failed his ass.

Me and my brother go shooting every other weekend so we did exceptional in the shooting portion. He did a little better then me but he was using my gun so it doesn't count haha.

Good news is I passed easily and sent off packet to the BCI. Bad news is although by state law they are supposed to have your permit to you in 60 days they have been averaging 2 1/2 months. Wonder how a state agency gets away with not following state law?
