List of issues

Recommended Posts

I have a 2015 GMC Sierra 2500HD crew with the 6.0 gas. I have had it for just a few months and already have a list of issues with it. I'm wondering if anyone else is having the same issues with there truck.

1) My headlights suck to the point that it's dangerous.

2) My seat belt chime is so loud it drives me nuts.

3) My lights on my dash including the backup screen is so bright it makes it difficult to see while backing up.

4) My so called all terrain tires (goodyear wrangler sr-a) suck in the snow. I called Goodyear corporate and talked with 2 local Goodyear stores and they all tell me that tire is only a "all season" tire. Yet my build sheet for the truck says I bought "all terrain" breach of contract?

Ok enough bitching. Anybody else having any of these problems? Any solutions?

There are a lot of posts concerning your Issue #1. Both 1/2ton and HD's have horrible headlights. There is an upgraded light bulb and the computer get's reprogrammed to output more voltage to the lights. Your dealer should be able to look this up by your VIN. I just had mine done last week. I haven't yet tried it in the dark. Some say there is a noticeable improvement (maybe 30%) but it will likely come at reduced bulb life. I figure if they do burn out it will either be under warranty or else I will just replace them with new bulbs.

Your issue #2 I haven't noticed but I remember there were some posts about this (maybe in 1/2 ton section) and the dealer can reprogram the chime to be softer.

Well, the dash lights and screen can be turned down, so that is easily solved. The Michelin LTX AT2's that came on my 2015 2500 also left a lot to be desired. I have a pre 2015.5 and the headlights do just fine for me. They are bright enough that some folks think I have my brights on. No HID's. And I have a lot of critters to keep from hitting on the rural roads I have to primarily drive on. I have just been able to mentally block the seat belt chime. I am off road a lot on the property and never wear a seat belt doing that. Thinking of unplugging the seat belt sensor under the seat as that was an option in previous years to just stop the seat belt chime thing. Probably not a option now that they are programming so much stuff to throw a code if one disables it.

There is no perfect pickup, irregardless of brand or model, to wit, look at the way everyone seems to always modify them. Just because the OP doesn't worship at the GM alter doesn't mean there is nothing he LOVES about his pickup. Heck, I don't love anything about any vehicle I have ever bought since my first vehicle, a 1966 C10 pickup in 1971. I was fond of several of them, including the one I have now, but have never LOVED any of them. I am one of those weirdos... I don't fall in love with inanimate objects. And I don't have any problem with pointing out design flaws and stupid ways the OEM's do things. Be it my pickup or my semi truck ( the best one I have owned to date ), they are just tools to get done what I need to do. I just don't want something that I start inventing new swear words over... like my previous 2013 1500.

Well the first issue is a knock problem for the Sierras, but I thought they fixed the problem in the '15s but I could be wrong. The other stuff are more of personal preferences. The tires I know a lot complain about and I know they're a lot better tires out there but I haven't really had any problems with the SR-As on my 1500. They could be better in snow of course, but having a 4x4 it almost cancels them out to where they're not too bad unless it's a really deep snow. Haven't had an issue with mine in the snow but I'm just in northern NC so we sometimes get decent snows but mostly it's small stuff. Could also be the tire pressures, Mine goes down to about 33 cold in the winter. By the way, buying a GMC All-Terrain isn't the same as a Ford Raptor. The tires are really all season, it's not like they're street tires like you'd put on a lowered truck that isn't made for anything other than asphalt.

I want to share an update regarding some of the issues I was having with my new truck:

I installed a HID kit to resolve the headlight issue. They work great and I highly recommend it. GM wouldn't do anything for me so I spent about $130. Money well spent.

This week I had my truck in for it's first oil change and the dealer was able to reprogrammed the radio which fixed the loud chime issue.

The tire issue was the invoice/build sheet said I had bought All Terrain tire which in fact the Goodyear SR-A are an All Season Tire. GM or the Dealer would not do anything for me because they said they classify the tire as an All Terrain. I took the Dealership to small claims court and won the dollar value of a set of All Terrain tire.
