Magnaflow, Flowmaster Cat backs..which one???

Recommended Posts

I know that the 6.0 has 3.5 inch pipe for the exhaust. I'm planning on getting a cat back for my new 2500hd. Where the pipe diameter for the magnaflow is 4 inch will this have any negative effects on the truck?? Just wondering. I'm trading in my 2013 gmc sierra all terrain 6.2 for a 2016 2500 hd all terrain 6.0. Thanks

I didn't do a cat back on my 2015 6.0L, just a muffler replacement for the trash can muffler. The rest of the exhaust system is pretty well designed. I used a Magnaflow 3.5" in and out offset straight thru muffler. Save some green and just do the muffler.

I've never done a premade system. I just had a shop remove everything from the muffler on back and had them put in a Flowmaster Super 44 single in/dual out muffler and tailpipes to the black chrome tips at 45° behind each tire. I'm picky and I know what I want so I hate to not only paying too much for a premade system but I don't like settling for how a system is setup. Parts and labor it cost around $350. It's not mandrel bent pipes but on a pickup that I don't plan on doing anything major performance wise you won't know the difference. You might only know the difference on a high performance vehicle, but not on a daily driver pickup truck.

I bought a Gibson but it didn't fit...it was touching the leaf spring and the spare tire heat shield. I'm thinking about going to mbrp

So what are you going with now?

I am leaning towards kit #19027 from Magnaflow. I just hope its not too loud and droney. The drone is not very good to drive with a headache I sometimes get because of my neck. Looking for a nice sound when windows are open but have some quiet time in luxury when i choose...lol

I was talking to a member of the forum here about the dual magnaflow 19027 and the single 19026. He had the duel system on his truck and he said it was a drone in the cab at around 1800 rpm..so he put the dual on his work truck and went with the single system for his daily driver. He found the single system excellent. I think I'm going to go with the single when I order it. He was the guy that had the burgundy 2500 with the magnaflows in the post 6.0 exhaust ideas. I'm sure that he would be able to help you. I hope this helps

Thanks, I think that was my thread..lol

I just like the dual look, and exterior sound. His drone may be due to the fact it is under the cab more on a crew cab. I have the ext (dbl) cab and may be different. if I was to stay single I would just have my exhaust shop replace muffler in the exist system.

Currently I have my guy searching for a muffler to my specs to build custom system. He is recommending the magnaflow kit and he will weld it all together which i did not my 2006 2500

Not trying to jack this thread so I apologize.

So what is the general consensus on the best muffler for the 6.0?

I currently have duals running into the stock ss titanic muffler and a single coming out ofit. What It came with stock, but wanting to duals coming from the muffler back. Id like to stick with dual in and dual out single muffler. Or should I actually go with a pair of mufflers? Looking for the deep aggressive sound with out the cackle at the end, but with low droning. I realize this is an old thread, but any help would be very appreciated.

Thanks all

I've texted the mechanic that put the aftermarket exhaust on my old '04 (for the current owner). I see & hear it thru the village & it's not horribly loud.

I always described the OEM muffler as a furnace oil tank:

Haha yeah that pic describes it perfectly.

Cool thanks man looking forward to your response. I was thinking MagnaFlow or Flowmaster but Ive heard mixed reviews on both. I've also heard Dynomax aren't terrble either.

I was talking to the mech' & he didn't actually do the install, but said they were Magnaflows (shorties) since the cats were kept. I'll talk to the guy that owns it & see if I can get any other details.
