6.0 Exhaust ideas

Recommended Posts

My factory exhaust is cut of right behind the resonator under the passenger compartment. My guy put a "Y" right there and dual pipes straight out the back of the truck.. No drone, not overly loud, has a great sound on or off the gas. I love it!!

I just went through this so hopefully I can add some info here. I am going to cut and paste my experiences from another thread on a different site.

Hi Guys, (this thread is to provide pictures of a cat-back on a new HD. There is almost nothing on the interweb currently)

Yesterday I finished installing a new "large performance" cat-back from Magnaflow. I had a 19026 single side exit system on order but after SEARCHING for pics of the tip placement I had some concerns. I really do not like exhaust tips sticking out further than the body lines. I changed my order to the 19027 dual rear exit system. It took some fiddling to get the pipes and tips aligned perfectly but I am pretty happy with the way it turned out. It is 3.5" to the muffler and dual 3" out with 4" tips. It sounds very nice except for an excessive interior drone at 1800 RPM. I am hoping that may get better after break in. If it doesn't, I may add a 12" x 6" round Magnaflow muffler in front of the existing muffler.

Last week I installed a Magnaflow 6" round x 14" long muffler in front of the existing muffler on my truck. It helped some with the drone but not enough for me. My stock exhaust went back on and I put the Magnaflow system on my 2015 shop truck. This truck is a regular cab long bed. Interestingly enough there is ZERO drone from the system on this truck and I did not put the extra muffler in. I am guessing it is because the muffler winds up under the bed instead of under the cab. I wish I could have gotten it to sound this way on my personal truck. Either way, it sounds fantastic and is very nice quality as well.

I ordered a Flowmaster Super 50, it goes on next week, I am replacing just the muffler, a dual system gets really crappy trying to get around the spare. This will give it a nice sound and not send the drone into my capped bed where my dogs ride. Any improvement over the 55 gallon drum muffler is worth it. $200 installed, that's welded not clamped.

Yeah, I was only game for replacing the trash can muffler with a Magnaflo. Really nice throaty sound without being obnoxious.

Update...I'm kinda pissed now...the exhaust was touching the rear left mud flap and the heat shield for the rear tire. So it's back in the box and going for a return.

I have a 06 2500hd 6.0. Bought it brand new and Been straight piped since 5th day I had it. Cut the muffler off and had nothing but sticks of pipe put in place each time.

It's loud it's deep and it will set off car alarms. And get you pulled over.......a lot just going down the interstate. Yea it's that awesome.

It's been a full time farm truck since I bought it I've not romped around in it being some wild ass kid. I've hauled 20' cattle trailer full of 10-11 1200lb cows through a city. I've pulled steep mountains on interstate with those cows behind it. If you want noise just put in sticks of pipe. It's interesting

If you can text pm me. I'll send ya some videos of me just going out starting it up and can make ya 1-2 going down the road.

I will say at about 15-1600rpm with trailer behind you and going about 46-48mph. It will ring your ears in the cab. Mine is a 5speed. No automatic.

Everything's the same.

Thats not true, everything not same 15'-16'.. for example the air intake kits are different, and they don't even make a canned tune yet for the 6.0

I was also thinking of the super 50 as well. I had magnaflow on my last truck (06' 2500hd sierra 6.0) and after 5 years of it I was done, the drone kinda got to me.

I understand the Super 50 is little more tame and would be even quieter due to the 2016 insulated cab.

Can you possibly get me sound clip from inside cab? It would greatly help my decision ...thanks in advance if you have the time.

Hi Guys,

Here is Magnaflows other cat back system for the newer 6.0L HDs. Part number 19026. I installed it yesterday. This one is quieter inside my crew cab than the 19027 system was. It is also slightly quieter outside the truck but still has a nice deep tone. Fit and finish are excellent.
