6.0 Exhaust ideas

Recommended Posts

If you are looking for a 3.5" straight through and don't mind it being a little louder, I have Magnaflow 14161 Race Muffler on the shelf in my store. I used it for about 10 miles on my truck to see if it changed the tone of the dual out system. Still looks brand new and would ship in its original box with paperwork. Retail is $156. I will take $110 plus tax and shipping. (that's what I have into it)

PM me if interested. Not looking to make any money just trying to help out.

In what respect? Sound? The MagnaFlow has a more mellow, non-raspy sound.

I agree. A great, deep throaty sound reminiscent of great muscle cars back in the day without being obnoxious. The Magnaflow 12909 on my 2500 was the perfect match.

Just read through the thread gentlemen, I am too thinking about replacing the exhaust on my 2016 6.0. How is the drone on the magnaflow 12909 listed above? I had a 2009 mustang a few years ago with a borla axle back kit on it and it was the perfect noise level. Completely silent at 70 mph cruising down the highway, but had a nice rumble going up through the gears around town. That's the sound I'm going for.

No drone. That is something only the 1500 pickup owners with the AFM engines deal with. 2 years of the Magnaflow 12909 and not the hint of drone anywhere. Just throaty mellow sound.

I had the local shop weld in the magna flow 12909 muffler on my 16 2500 6.0 the other week. It has a great sound at a startup, pretty quiet at idle. Good tone when driving around. But what bugs me about it is the low rpm drone while driving around any speed really, from like 1600-2000 rpm. Which is sadly when I'd want it most quiet. But if I get on it, sounds great, like I'd expect. But just a touch too loud for me in residential stop and go type 25mph street situations. And a touch too droney cruising around 60 mph.

Now some other guys may like this, and in some scenarios I might too, but not on my daily. My last truck was a denali with the 6.2 and dual corsa sport catback, that I loved!

Any thoughts on how to remedy this, or should I start shopping for a new muffler to stick in there?

Well... I am going to do it. Magnaflow 12909 going on later today. My neighbors are going to love this, they already hate me and my son for noise. lol

Based on all the above comments it shouldn't be to bad.

Thats not true, everything not same 15'-16'.. for example the air intake kits are different, and they don't even make a canned tune yet for the 6.0

Show me a different part number for the exhaust system...

That's surprising. I typically run around in the 1800-2200 RPM range on the rural roads in my area and don't notice any kind of drone. I do a LOT of 55-60 mph stuff on those rural two lane, curvy, hilly roads. But then, I will generally keep it in M5 on that stuff to avoid constant shifting on every little mole hill. Maybe that is the difference. Did a recent drive to Omaha and back, hung out at around 65 mph which was roughly 1900 RPM in 6th and didn't get any drone for the 380 mile round trip.

I bought the 12909 on E bay new for $85 and had a shop weld it in for $100. The shop did not have to add any piping, cut and weld only. Looks just like the picture a few threads earlier, slight angle. I gotta say I do like the mellow rumble of the muffler. I haven't drove to much with it as I commute on a Motorcycle in the summer months but so far so good. I will be towing the 5th wheel with it next week so we will see how that goes. I likey......
