Automotive batteries generally produce 2.2 volts per cell. That means it is a 13.2volt battery, that requires 14.5 to 14.8 volts to charge. Never seen or heard of a 16 volt automotive alternator either.

I wouldn't dare put over 14.8 volts to anything built this century .... unless you've got deep pockets, and stock in GM ...

 

What is a 16v alternator?
