What a nightmare

Recommended Posts

Short story... I bought a new Silverado last year and since then I'm having a nightmare with the dealership... There are two dents on the front bumper chrome part (above license plate), probably caused by a tow hitch when they move or park truck on their lot. I didn't see them a the moment (was a winter raining day), I noticed the dents the next day. I emailed the salesman I deal with it, and he questioned it immediately, telling me if I was sure they were there already or happened after I got it. Luckly for me on the dealership website the truck was still on sale and on the picture you can see the two dents. o screen shot and sent them to the sale guy, that agreed to take care of it.

The customer relations manager contacted me telling me that they have a guy that fix bumpers that stop a the dealership on Mondays. When he is there they will gave him my phone number so he contact me directly. The first month went by... I stop a the dealership for pick up the license plates (although they were supposed to ship to me, and the license plate were wrong. I ordered and paid for a custom plate and I got a regular) and the customer relations manager told me that the guy is very busy but the next Monday he is a the dealership, they will gave my phone number. Few weeks vent by still nothing. Contacted the salesman, telling him that I'm tired the herd the next Monday story, and few days later I was in touch with the bumper guy...Finally!

Well... Because of the winter, the bumper guy that agreed to meet me on locations more convenient for me (the dealership is one hour from where I live), did not met me at all... One day was too dark, one day was to late during the day, one day... He also told me to leave the truck with the hood open in a parking lot...Right... A the end did not work out, like I was hoping... So I waited the spring, longer days, warm more light...

Contacted back the salesman, told him the story, and agreed to meet the bumper guy on Monday at 1000 the dealership. I was there at 0950, waited till 1150 and the bumper guy did not showed up... Every one a the dealership seems was bothered by me, trying to ignore me. The salesman I deal with was not there either... 3 hours and gas wasted...

I contacted the salesman via email, and told what nightmare i'm having, and he said that was sorry (I truly believe him and he care on what he does) and that he was going to contact the bumper guy and will set an appointment only for me on the next Wednesday at 1000 a the dealership. I was there at 0940... At 1000 the salesman told me that the bumper guy was little behind, and was going to be there in 15 minutes... Finally the bumper guy showed up, we walked where mi truck was parked so he could take a look a the dents, and shortly he said that he does not fix dents on chrome, only on paint... And this is a work for another bumper guy that fix dents on chrome. The salesman contacted the other bumper guy, and told me he was going to be there in 30 minutes, that he was in a close dealership. I requested a new bumper a this point, so the salesman and sales manager went out and checked the bumper on my truck and talked for a little bit. They came back, and the salesman told me that they can only fix it, because a new bumper is $1600... After I was able to get some attention from the sales manager (before he was I don't look so you are not here mood) and asked him that I wanted a new bumper he said that he has nothing wrote that he need to fix or replace the bumper, because for what he know I could have dent it. So I told him that I have picture of the truck on their dealership and the two dents are visible. So he changed little bit tone, and after we met wit the bumper guy (the one that does chrome that finally was there!), the bumper guy said that he can fix it for 80%, because there is a kind of line on the dent, is not round. The sales manager told me that he was going to call the director manager and was going to call me in an hour or so... Well, I did not heard from him, and I'm pretty sure he will never call me.

For what I love Chevy truck and I had different of them, make me want to sell it and get a different brand.

Sounds like poor customer service by the dealer, not an issue with a particular brand. You can go on any message board for any truck brand and read stories like yours. Sucks that your dealer is giving you the runaround. How bad are the dents? Any pictures?

Find a family member or friend who has an attorney and pay them for an hour of their time so that you can explain the issue and have them draft a nice letter explaining the ramifications of having sold you a car without disclosing the damage and their failure to make it whole. Should go a long way towards getting the dealerships attention and appropriate customer service.

This is why I spent some time inspecting my truck at the dealership after my test drive. I suspected the dealer would fix most anything I found wrong with the truck in a heartbeat to make the sale, maybe not so quickly after they had my money. OP, I'd call these guys everyday until they made it right.

I had a dent in the fender that goes around the doors, with the same "I don't remember that being there when we sold it to you" when it was clearly discussed. Someone must've liked me because they ended up taking the truck to the body shop, kept if for a couple weeks (since they had to repaint, the dent was too deep) and fixed it. They didn't want to give me a loaner either because I was 19 & they want you to be 21.... I'm not sure if it was my extreme assertiveness, or what, but I wasn't very pleased by their reluctance and they didn't want to make me mad. LOL. Damn stealerships.

You could try sending an email to the salesman and/or sales manager that you are dealing with and copy the owner of the dealership highlighting all of this. The dealership for one of my old cars messed up my rim when they were doing a tire rotation. In my correspondence with them to make sure that they fixed it, I copied the owner of the dealership in an email. Needless to say they made it right quickly.

My dealership takes exceptional care of your vehicle from the time you hand off to when it returns for service. Vehicles awaiting service are stored in 8 foot wide single rows spaces to assure no parking lot damage. That being said after I purchased my new Camaro, after gassing, washing and waxing the brought it to the front of the building for me to leave just as some moron customer squeezes into the zebra stripe area next to it and his nitwit brat jumps out and dings the door of my already paid for new vehicle.

Here's the story of how a responsible dealership should act.....even though technically not their fault they agreed to make good. Since the ding was along the belt line I had the choice of either going through the aggravation of them first trying a dent less repair and if unsuccessful having the door body worked and resprayed, or they would have the body shop custom spray and install a matching side molding to cover the belt line ding. I went with the latter and you would need Xray vision to see the ding.

Sounds like a dealer issue. I had a similar issue and didn't notice the dent until the next day. Notified my salesman and the bumper was immediately fixed. I believe it was completely replaced as they said they couldn't fix it. I did mention that we didn't do an external walk around during handover, but I don't feel that's why they didn't question it. Just good CS.

Maybe I shouldn't bring this to light, but OP sounds like (from the broken English/paragraph) he may be foreign. Unfortunately, there is still a bias toward foreigners and a dealership/sales wouldn't be above it.

Honestly, this could lend to their being half assed in wanting to help you.

Holy paragraphs batman

Let's be honest though, at least it has punctuation and was split into paragraphs. It's much better than the run on sentence posts that some people post.
