Exhaust Change with or without flapper ?

Recommended Posts

Has anyone installed an aftermarket exhaust, with or without the flapper valve?

If so, how is the sound of what you have and is the drone bad?

GM-Borla with valve worth the money?

Mine is stock 5.3

thanks!

I installed a Flowmaster 40 Delta and left the flapper...it didn't sound right and could hear the flapper a bit. I clamped the flapper open and it sounds great, the v4 mode sounds a little crappy. It's not horrible but can be annoying at times. At 75-80 in v8 mode it sounds good with very little drone, v4 mode get a little too loud for me. I'm considering a Black Bear tune for various reasons, if I do afm will be disabled.

On the GM Borla, everything I have read is very positive but they are fairly quiet. Really depends on the sound your looking for.

Edit: I read somewhere on this forum where somebody moved the valve before the muffler more like the Borla setup...I'd like to hear how that's working as far as minimizing chopper sound without killing the overall sound out the pipe.

I did a corsa sport cat back on my 2015. Drone is non existent, cruising you have a nice deep throaty sound. When you step on it ... you get a mini chubby because it just roars.

Corsa by far is the best without flapper, drone free.

I did a magnaflow exhaust single in two out muffler with no flapper.

I love the exhaust, a little loud while towing. The V-4 mode needs to go which makes me want to take the magnaflow off. I think the reason these do better on fuel is because of the V4 mode. When slowing down you can hear the V4 mode and it sounds awful. Makes me wish I would have left the stock exhaust on.
