Spare tire - 2015 CHEV 2500HD

Recommended Posts

I recently had the unfortunate experience of picking up a nail the the sidewall of one of my tires. Luckily the truck only had 6,000 miles on it and I could get away with only buying one. The shop I bought the tire from had to order a replacement so I had no choice but to use my spare in the meantime. Since getting the new tire and putting the spare back under the bed, I've noticed it rattles around a lot. I took a look under there and even though I have the cable cinched as tight as it will go, it's definately loose enough to swing around when you hit a bump. My question - is this normal? I'm not sure if it was any tighter prior to using my spare. Btw, to my dismay my spare wasn't even the same brand as what came on the truck.

I have a 2016 2500HD and also noticed that the spare tire was different brand of tire. Are you sure you do not have the spare tire upside down. Valve stem should be pointing down.

I'm not sure. I will definately check it out when I get home. As for the spare itself, I was a little upset about it not matching. It's a "full size spare" but unlike the ones on the vehicle. Even if I wanted to I couldn't run the spare for long. I checked with the dealership and was told they include whatever surplus tires they have as spares as long as they're the right size.

I noticed this on my '12 3500HD. I ordered the truck with all-terrain tires (Michelin ATX-2) and my spare was a highway tread Goodyear of some sort. I checked the paperwork, and the tire option was indeed for 4 tires. I sold the Goodyear and bought another matching Michelin!

I called Chevy buy was told that the spare wasn't for long term and meant to be just that, a spare. Although I agree a spare is a spare, if they advertise that the truck comes with a full size spare it definately misleads people into belieing they have a fifth tire under there identical to the other four. Even if I couldn't afford to buy a new tire in my situation, I didn't have a choice for the obvious reason of not driving around with an oddball tire. Come on GM!
