johnson60455
Hey Guys, I have a 2009 Sierra, the 4.8L crew. Its got a uhaul hitch and 7 pin, so pretty positive it did not have any tow package. When I look under the dash, for the life of me there is no bundle of wires, so pretty sure im right. It does have this 7 pole plug in the back ( to a uhaul 7 pin connector). So my question is, without the nice bundle of wires under the dash, where exactly am in running the 12v and brake signal into the GM 7 pin plug? I mean I can run them back and splice them in, but there has got to be a better way no? I'm onlt towing an open car hauler (sub 2k lb) and a s2000 (sub 3k lb) but I surely want to added safety of the trailer brakes working Any help would be great! 00Silverado4x4
If you are looking to add a brake controller you should be able to get the pigtail from a dealer that plugs up under the dash. From there I'm not entirely sure what all you would need to do electrically to make it all work. The bigger questions I would have is since you state you do not have the tow package, do you have the transmission cooler in front of your radiator to help with cooling your transmission? What gears do you have in the rear axle? Do you have a properly rated receiver installed "or" have the properly rated ball installed in your rear bumper? johnson60455
If there is a socket for a pigtail, assumed they would make one (like the older models) but definitely will check into that. I guess I'll just look at wiring schematics, but seems if it was as easy as getting the pigtail there would be aftermarket. I mean, wiring is easy its 4 wires, I just wanted it to be cleaner than running myself and splicing in. Guess I need to find a good facotry service manual (GM is usually not to helpful asking quesitons, they just want you to bring it in and they do it for $$$$$) As far as gearing, its bad, 3.08 or 3.23 i forget exactly. Has a trans temp and aftermarket cooler (first thing i do is upgrade that regardless). class 3 hitch, etc. I don't do bumper pulls. already pulled a few times without the trailer brakes, its a dog, but temps stay under 200 (not much grade though). Once the motor goes I'll put a 6.0 in it.....I swap LSx's into all my cars anyway
