2012 Sierra 4x4 headlights

Question

Was driving to work at 5:30 am and all at once my head lights went out. Could not turn them on. Had hi beams but now low beams. So i took it to the dealer to find out what was wrong/happened. When i got it back they said that both bulbs went out. What's the odds of both going out at the same time? So my question is does this just happen or are they just telling me this because they don't know what happened and will it happen again?

I am always amazed that more don't go out at the same time, or at least within a day or so. About the only thing that can take out bulbs at the same time is high voltage. Trouble is, if it was high enough to blow two headlights at once, and not any other incandescent bulb then something bizarre is afoot. If it was high voltage, then I would have expected the high beams to also be burnt out, assuming you simply switched to high beams within seconds of the low beams going out, prior to shutting off engine and restarting it.

Note that the infamous bad grounds can also take out light bulbs for no apparent reason.
