2007 new model Silverado rear hub studs (drum brakes)

Recommended Posts

Hi, I've been searching here and Google for an hour and haven't found a good guide or answer, so I'm starting my own post.

I have a 2007 new model Silverado, and I need to replace the studs on the driver's rear hub. It has drum brakes.

Can it be done without pulling the entire assembly off the axle?

Does anyone know of any guides for it?

Thanks in advance.

If it's anything like on my previous '06 you just need to pull the wheel and drum. Then bank out the old stud, then what I did was purchase I spare lug nut. I used a crescent wrench and slip the handle hole over the new stud and using the spare lug nut, tightened the lug until the new stud was seated. Then took the nut back off and reinstalled the drum and wheel...good to go. The lug nut was chewed up pretty good when I was done which is why I bought it knowing that it would. There is probably a tool just for this job but the lug nut was really cheap and I already owned the crescent wrench.

It's on a Dodge Dakota but it'll be the same process for your truck as well. It's a little different then how I did mine but the end result is the same.
