Car Play and Android Auto Suspension

Recommended Posts

From GM:

Due to supply issues, it is necessary to build a certain quantity of 2016MY Silverado 1500 and HD trucks without Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility. The only radio impacted is the 8” color touch screen radio (IO5) that is standard on LT and LTZ models.

The affected trucks will be built with the 2.0 HMI module which was previously used on 2015MY Silverado 1500 and HD trucks. This substitution will begin approximately mid-May and is expected to last approximately a month and a half. The exact duration is yet to be determined and will vary by plant.

Below are the four ways in which you can identify the affected trucks:

1. The window label will display a line in the optional equipment section indicating that a credit of $200 has been applied for the deletion of Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility (see attachment).

2. The Vehicle Invoice will contain the RPO code “CPO” (letter O) and the $200 credit.

3. The main menu screen of the radio will not have the “projection” icon (see attachment).

4. The Service Parts Identification (SPID) label in the glove box will contain the RPO code “CPO” in addition to the RPO code “IO5.”

Wow. $200 credit? I'd avoid those models for sure! It would cost $1300+ to add the option later via 3rd party.

If I ordered a truck and it came in minus the Carplay / Android Auto, I would be livid!

Its around 6-700 to add carplay/AA to 15s. 1000-1200 if you add NAV as well. 200.00 seems a little light lol. I would not have bought this '16 I just picked up without NAV if carplay/AA wasn't available.

My guess is if GM cant get the new modules the aftermarket guys wont be able to get them for a while either.

Can anyone confirm whether this will be affecting the GMC's? The message says Silverado LT and LTZ, is it safe to assume the Sierra's will suffer the same?

Also, I contacted GM Customer Service and they weren't aware of this restriction. Where did this information come from?

So here is the whole thing, not that it really matters.

Dear Chevrolet Dealer,

Due to supply issues, it is necessary to build a certain quantity of 2016MY Silverado 1500 and HD trucks without Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility. The only radio impacted is the 8” color touch screen radio (IO5) that is standard on LT and LTZ models.

Where we can, we are working to modify references to the availability of Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility on these vehicles within relevant advertising and marketing materials. Please be aware, however, that some materials such as printed catalogs, brochures and showroom displays will not reflect the product changes described in this message. It is therefore, very important that you counsel with each customer individually about the content, functionality and price of the truck in which they are interested.

We will send further communication when this issue is resolved.

Best regards,

Chevy Truck Marketing

Yes, I also received a bulletin from GM regarding Sierra

I ordered a truck and it has a build date for the week of June 6th. Right in the middle of this suspension. I just got off the phone with Chevrolet and and I can confirm jamesonjc was right with his previous post. This suspension will only effect trucks ordered without navigation. Trucks with navigation are not effected.

Thank God I ordered the nav.

Could be that too many people were forgoing the optional $500 Nav heads ($2K+ if linked to a rear entertainment system package) in favor of the non-Nav heads that could handle auto android and effectively use Google map app and function as a Nav.

What would I do? Easy.... no bucks for a Nav, then no auto android to simulate a Nav and you'd have to spend the $200 reduction for a plug in Nav anyway! So, only sell auto android capable Nav units forcing those that want a built-in Nav and those who must have auto android capability, to spend the extra bucks for the Nav head..........helps to reduce excess '15 inventory stock and '16 Nav inventory to prepare for the '17s changes.

But what do I know, just being paranoid.

I wouldn't take a truck without the option. Not for a 200 dollar credit. I wonder what the 17 head unit will be like. I am waiting for that one to come out to upgrade my 14 unit. Which is okay but slow.

I would say you're dead on there. I've been told (and mentioned here) that the IO6 was not affected. Myself and a few others ordered the IO5 for the very reason you mentioned. *Fingers Crossed*

Well, I am new here. Seeking some advice as I am sure I am not the only one experiencing this. I have been caught unfortunately in this "suspension". Just picked up my truck today, the salesman had to break the news to me... NO Car Play or Android Auto on my 2016 LTZ. I as others opted out of NAV, planned on using a phone for this requirement, as well as other features I was expecting to be able to use. So, what is everybody else doing? I don't plan on accepting this, my order was placed May 2 for this truck,, before the letter came out. Anybody else have advice on how to tackle "fighting" it out with these guys?
