WOW Super 50 Flowmaster

Recommended Posts

Just installed a Flowmaster Super 50 muffler. What a great sound, mellow with a nice rumble. Kept the factory exhaust, had to extend the pipe about 5"s but it matched the 3 1/2 inlet outlet. Rolled the 55 gallon drum out from under it and BOOM. Great sound and $200 later and it's done, welded the short piece on and band clamped the rest. Worth every penny. Just do it, no resonating under the cap or cab, it's designed for an SUV.

Da..it's a 2015 GMC Sierra SLT 2500 HD 6.0 forgot that part. It lasted 200 miles before I leveled it and 4000 until I made it sound right. Tires next, these pizza cutters have to go. I made it a Denali without the badges. I wanted the full crome bumper, been there with anything painted up front, couldn't get that on the D. Last truck was a lifted Ford Excursion, 7.3 Powerstroke, drove it 13 years and 300,000 miles. Then it kept trying to go back to dirt. Darn MI salt.

Yup that'she the part number but this is labeled Super 50 Series, offset 3.5 I could take a pic in the morning. I have a few miles on it now it is a nice rumble that can get loud when you gas it, no rapping, poping, just a nice flat rumble, just normal it's great, no shift problems from back pressure.

You hear the sound out back but even under the cap it's OK. There are times I don't hear it at all inside, you do hear it but that's what I wanted and it's very tolerable. If you Rev it it can get loud but that's on purpose. With 3 days driving it it's a keeper, at least it's not a glass pack that gets louder overror time.

I welded my 50 series Flowmaster on today and it sounds good. Medium deep tone and noticeable at idle. Cab drone is fair around 2000-2400 rpm but its not obnoxious. I have a double cab so the muffler is 2/3 under the bed. I would imagine the drone could be worse on crew cab models, since more muffler is under the cab. Has a good bark when you accelerate aggressive and turn some rpm.

I have the dbl cab as well. I only ask because I have had dual exhaust on every truck i've owned (both mag flow and flow master) and on my last truck (06' sierra 2500 dbl cab) after 5 years it was getting to me on long drives mostly(magnaflow dual on this one) . But, I know my 2016 is most likely twice as insulated and twice as quieter than the 2006 model. So maybe would be more tolerable.

Also, I notice no one is opting to get dual out back? I always liked the look, but is it not necessary on this system?

I sit possible you can download an app and tell me what the decibel rating is when you are at cruising speed, and/or attach a file so i can hear it in cab? If not no worries, just dont want to do it for nothing. thanks in advance!

i love the Flowmaster sound. Just watch for themrusting in Michigan with salt. I had one on a Avalanche 2500 8.1 dual in dual out. Five years and it was gone, rusted...

Do you have Super 50 on your current truck?

Like said it roars a little at initial start but quiets down when not under load. I just got the FM tip, 3.5 in 4 out, it has to be welded on. I have a CC with a cap and I don't notice it on the hwy at all. I'm 53 and don't need the loud noise, as far as duals I would put the tire in the bed or its a pretzel back there, I love the look too but it's just too many bends and too close to stuff that shouldn't get hot, or may cause a rattle. It's just a nice sound that is not obnoxious.

The single 3.5" factory system I'm sure flows very well and i doubt duals out back would improve anything beside cosmetic appearance.

I was wrong about my original post when I said drone is around 2000-2400rpm, it accrues at a lower rpm around 1700-1800 and quiets right up. If you have the radio on a low volume level, you can't even here it. Do you have any free apps in mind?

Flowmaster makes the same muffler in SS FYI, Also the factory tail pipe and muffler are not SS but aluminized. All factory piping in front of the muffler to the engine is SS.
