Investigation needed in GM Truck MPG

Recommended Posts

NO way Silverado's get the 16 City, 22 HWY, 18 average gas mileage. Mine is tracking at least 5 mpg below regardless of where I drive. I've tracked it for 2000 miles now and had into the dealer 3 times and they admit that it doesn't get the stated gas mileage.

Apparently, this has been a big problem for GM and is in my opinion, wide spread...

What the reality is GM of all the manufactures LOW Ball their numbers and hitting the EPA with GM products and exceeding is usually the norm. Something is not correct with your vehicle!

I live just down the road from you and have had my truck for 1.5 years and 12k miles. My overall average is 19.2 mpg, a little higher in the summer and lower in the winter. Either something is wrong with your truck or your foot is on the pedal way too hard.

36,000 miles and mpg is, in most instances, better than advertised. When I was travelling back and forth to work, I averaged (warm months) 22 to 23. I don't do any more daily to work driving. :) Now it's mainly around town driving, and it is pretty steady at 18 almost 19. Very happy with these numbers and it's been consistently like this from the beginning.

For me on my old 2014 and seems to be the case on my 2016 around town I am getting around 16 MPG and I have got as high as 23.4 on the highway on my old 2014, so far on my 2016 I saw a highest of 20.6 on the highway.

I barely get 18 or 19 on the highway around here. Usually around 14 or less in the "city"

Mileage posted by automakers is required to be the mileage using the federally mandated driving cycle.

We've known ever since they started doing this (at least 45 years ago) that the federal driving cycle doesn't represent the real world.

It does give a method to compare vehicle A with vehicle B.

The fuel economy screen is the best thing yet for learning how driving habits impact fuel usage.

I have used Fuelly almost exclusively since I bought the truck and I get on average 1mpg less from that calculation vs what the fuel economy screen shows me I've averaged over the tank and I always wait till I'm empty to fill up.

Here is my gas mileage. I'm definitely not getting the city mileage and my best has been 20 mpg when going to Harrisburg. I definitely think the MPG is over stated.

You have to also remember that the mpg numbers is based on only one configuration, the one that gives the best mpg's. You start adding 3.42 or 3.73 gears and ext or crew cab which adds weight over the base reg cab short bed then the numbers start to go down. I myself am not impressed with my mpg's as compared to what the epa mileage says. Even though I am getting the average of 19 mpg, every vehicle I have owned before this one averaged well above the epa estimate average. My 2002 silvy was rated at 14 and 18 and I averaged 17.5 mpg's. My 92 was listed at 12 and 16 and I got 15 mpg's on average. I was actually expecting to average 21 mpg's out of this truck based on my experiences with my last two silverados but that is not the case. Still not too dissapointed with it and glad I am not getting the mpg' s the OP is getting!

I have had my truck for 2 years and left on of the trip trackers running for the last 10k miles. I average about 16.8 - 16.9 miles in those last sets. But this truck is my weekend vehicle so it gets the majority of its miles driving around town. When i do trips to Vermont, I cam easily get 22 ish mpg on the combine 400 mile trip.

But hey I hope there is something there, so I can get 900 dollars from them and buy a new exhaust :)

Possibly, but it's not rule of thumb.

My 5.3 can, but I have to really baby it. Before I had the exhaust done and I would really baby it everywhere I had no problem getting 23 on the interstate while in V8 mode and could squeeze out 18 in town. That was also in the summer. But, after getting the exhaust done the town MPGs is out the window because it got me to revert back to my old driving style, just toned down some.I can still get good mileage on the highway or interstate though. So as long as it's not stop and go then I can get good mileage. Also like to add that there's a lot of hills in my town, especially right around where I live.

I've always had full size Chevy V8 trucks so I'm used to not getting great mileage. Same as if you're looking at a performance car, you don't or shouldn't look at the MPGs. At least in my opinion.
