Amber headlight modification

Recommended Posts

Hi, new to the forums and trying to find an answer.

I just recently purchased a 2016 Silverado and it is all white and black. Trying to stick with that theme I would like to change the amber reflectors and the amber headlights to clear. I've been searching for a way to modify these parts and or change them but I can't seem to find any and was hoping you guys could give me a hand!

Thanks so much!

Zach

Are you wanting to change the bottom row amber strip to an led strip like the DRL's?

I don't mind that that their turn signals I would just prefer to have them clear, not necessarily looking to get LEDs for it

actually kind of interested in this idea now if you had more info

2016 LTZs come with switch back LED turn signals that are not amber colored when not in use. Even when the truck is running park lights they are white.

Problem is I dont think those of us with LT trucks can swap to them, and theyre like $900 each.

I don't mind the headlights i have i just would prefer to get rid of the amber, if there was a clear replacement for the amber reflectors and back housing on the headlights i would be happy but i cant seem to find anything like that anywhere.

They're still pretty new, looks like 2017 will have these headlights too so. maybe in a year or 2 we'll see some from those clear lense people that made the clears for the 2014/15s. Still have to do some major disassembly of the headlight to get there though.

I believe you have white LED strips behind your turn signal, while the LTZ's have a switchback (color changing) LED strip.

If you were to remove the white strip/yellow lense, you'd definitely have to convert it to a switchback system to keep the correct color of the turn signal/hazards. This is required by law.

At least that's a law here in Texas...idk about Michigan.

It's a bulb in LT trucks, no LED turn signals. we just have the LED DRLs and HID headlights instead of LED.

If it's just a bulb, you can switch out the halogen for a yellow LED and then clear the amber lense like suggested above.

I did this mod to my 2017 with Klearz lenses.  I put a thread here:

While I was at it, I replaced the turn signal bulbs (they're white) with amber LEDs and put resistors in to eliminate hyperflash.  Klearz has bulbs and resistors you can order (and I did) but I did not like the bulbs they sent.  They weren't very bright and one bulb from the first set didn't even work.  Instead, I used the Klearz resistors and bought these bulbs from Amazon.  I am very happy with them so far.

Of note, the marker lights are a amber LED already so they will still be amber even with a clear lens.
