Converting bedroom to small gym

Recommended Posts

The doctors are on my ass about my weight because of my degenerative disc and lumbar facet arthropathy. So i ordered an exercise bike, and i am curious what else i should get. Im not looking to lift a lot, just drop some weight and strengthen core muscles.

The room is plenty. Good thought, but don't go overboard. I converted a room about 15 years ago with a bike trainer and the wife has the treadmill, but neither get much use (I mostly contribute that to the weather). Don't bother with the barbell set-up, takes up too much space. What ended up being my exercises of choice was a dumbell tree with dumbells from 15 to 35 lbs and a good straight bench. With your condition, low weight combined with multiple repetitions will work for your cardio and core.

Im single, no kids, and have a 2 bedroom house. So at least the room will be used. I need to get serious about my health. All it has been for before was storage or for a drunk friend to sleep in.

I dont know what would be good to get for core exercises

Been working out for 36 years, dumbells will work fine for the core. Don't go out and spend money on gimmicks, just practice good technique and keep the middle tight while working out throughout the dumbell motion.

Nice, nothing like Schwinn. I remember a Schwinn being my primary means of transportation in the late 60's, early 70's. Looks like it takes up as much room as a regular bike. Jump on it quick or else it may end up as a room ornament.

That's a pretty fancy looking bike. How many miles have you put on it while watching your fancy new TV?

Im guessing since youre canadian i need to answer in Km, so about 9 Km. Or 5.5 mi. The tv wasnt a pricey one. It is a decent brand and i liked the Roku functionality since i use a Roku 3 in my bedroom. I paid $290 for the bike and $220 for the tv.

Good luck on your journey. I workout in my garage with a small amount of weights. Wife has a bosu ball I use for balance and strengthen my knees
