2012 2500 HD Stumbles or hesitates

Recommended Posts

I bought a 2500 HD truck with the 6.0 liter vortec engine and 6- speed transmission, that had sit for about 16 months with out being driven, it was on a battery tender at that time, but had not been started or driven. It had about a half tank of fuel in the tank, I drove it till the tank was nearly empty and then refilled it with fresh fuel and a good grade of fuel conditioner expecting that the alcohol in the fuel might have gummed it up a bit. The truck had about 13,000 miles on it when I got it, I have drove it about 3,000 miles now and it still seems to hesitate at times. It idles smoothly and seems to run down the road OK, It is not showing any codes at least on the dash, but it just doesn't seem to be quite right at lower speeds, say like pulling out of the drive and through the first couple of gears. I repeated the injector cleaner again going to the max dosage, but it still seems to be the same. I checked the air cleaner to make sure critters hadn't packed it full of a nest, but it looked fine. Any ideas? The gas mileage seems to be between 13-15 on the highway and about 12-13 just daily driving around. I have wondered about changing the fuel filter on it but I am new to Chevy trucks and maybe I am missing something or a known problem to them.

What fuel system treatment did you use?

Try Seafoam or Chevron Techron.

Are you using 91+ octane fuel? I think this motor requires it.

I did use the sea foam cleaner, I will investigate the octane requirement, I wouldn't think in this day they would build a motor that was that picky, but been wrong before. LOL

If it feels sluggish, I'd lean more towards a transmission issue, or just not being used to it, than an engine problem. Especially if it still turns back good fuel mileage.

It seems to surge or stumble a little to me at low rpm acceleration, like what I used to think of as a accelerator pump issue back before fuel injection, LOL yes I am that old. I wondered if a fuel pressure regulator could be sticking possibly?

Good morning Ron_r,

I understand how the quality of ride in your truck is important and I’m sorry if this hesitation has been frustrating. I realize that at this time you are looking for feedback from other forum members, however, I would be more than happy to connect you with a dealership to have this diagnosed. Please private message me with more details if you would like my assistance.

All the best,

Julianne M.
