AC seal repeat blowout at evaporator

Mattyh7

Question

I work on a 2007 Express 3500 with dual ac.I replaced both evaps because of leaks. It keeps blowing the steel shim o ring at the front evaporator at the orifice tube location. It was fine for a month & it's coming back today.I think it may be a fan clutch issue allowing the system to over pressurize sometimes. Ant thoughts on this?

Run the a/c with a garden hose running over the condenser. That will ensure the condenser will actually work and convert the hot/gaseous refrigerant to hot/liquid, and also it will help control the pressure on the high side. A/C systems use the condenser to control the high side pressure. If air flow is restricted across the condenser, high side pressure can rise to the point that the fan belt will start to slip on the A/C clutch pulley. If the condenser is blocked with crap in the fins, or due to fins all being bent over, high side will be excessive even on the highway. If it is just not enough air flow at a stop, then as soon as vehicle is above about 10mph, the A/C will start operating normally, with the clutch cycling off and on.

There is a bulletin on the 07 & 08's related to this & fan clutch issues, poor performance in hot climates & long idle periods. I replaced the fan clutch, radiator had small leak, replaced it. I bought the seal from GM,it had twice as much rubber on the steel shim seal than the crappy Santech. All ps good!
