Traded my 1500 in Monday for the 2500HD Duramax. Wow!

Recommended Posts

Well, as the thread title states, I traded trucks Monday. Went from the GMC 1500 Z71 to the GMC 2500HD Denali. I got a call from my dealership. They were authorized to knock 15% off certain vehicles on their lot. They knew I had been looking for 2 months at the 2500HD but wasn't satisfied with only a $4-$6k discount. Gave me a call and knocked $10k off the truck I wanted. Picked her up Monday. They gave me $44k for my 2016 1500 Z71 I had put 9k miles on. I felt good with that since I only paid $47k for it. Took a loss but man was it worth it. I've been struggling with the towing issue since I upgraded tractors a few months back. The 10k load was just so difficult for my 1500 to handle. Especially hitting a hill. I just felt I was aging my 1500 a lot faster than it should be.

I towed my tractor yesterday for the first time. Weight, just over 10k with trailer. Holy cow boys, I honestly couldn't even tell I was pulling anything. I had a buddy tell me that a few weeks ago and I thought to myself....that's BS. How can you not feel 10K behind you. Well, I know what he was talking about now. That 6.6 Duramax engine is a freaking beast.

Not towing, I'm averaging 19.8 MPH. Towing 10k yesterday, I averaged 11.6 MPG. Not bad at all. Very happy with those numbers.

I'm very happy with my new truck. Kept the same color as you can see from the pic below. I now look forward to towing instead of dreading it.

Great to hear. I am watching and reading the threads on the 2500HD and especially the Duramax diesel engine. I am looking for something to eventually maybe tow a 8-10k travel trailer and from what it sounds like this "Beast" would without hesitation. I live not far from you below Greensboro, NC.

I was able to drive a 2015 2500HD Duramax yesterday up in Fancy Gap owned by a friend. I was so amazed by the truck's diesel did not clack like diesels I have heard all my life. My New Holland tractor clacking was what I was expecting. I believe the sound was comparable to a gas engine which blew my mind.

That said........I am not looking to the top of the line Denali but maybe a well equipped SLE. I want cloth bucket seating mainly.

What dealer did you buy from since you are near me? I am not in a position right now to need the truck but doing all my research right now.

I had a 2500 ck gasser and pulled a 30' 5th wheel last year and was lucky to get 5 mpg. It really struggled with any minor hill and no way could i put cruise control on, it would have burned up the tranny. This spring I bought a used 2015 duramax 2500 and have been AMAZED at the difference. I can put cruise control on and with the hill assist, it never misses a beat going up any hill. It usually is only running at 1700 rpm and averaging 11 mpg when pulling the rv.

This has been a great investment i dont have to worry when we hook up the rv if we will make there with out blowing up the pickup. I tell my son i no longer have a pickup i drive a TRUCK! :)

If you do any towing you need a duramax they are so impressive and you will never be at a lack of power.
