thanks Schmidt0221!

so a couple of small updates....

i picked up the chevy floor mats. i was originally looking at weathertech (that's what i have in my '89 and my wife has in her car), but after reading the thread here about weathertech's recent change in quality i opted to go with the chevy ones. i like them and i'm not really concerned about the lack of coverage under the gas pedal. my foot is always on the mat. the only 'dirt' that is under the gas pedal now was there as a result of the original stock floor mat. i haven't had time to properly detail the floor, just a quick vacuum....

i do plan on getting the back seat liner for the crewcab, but it can wait. the only passengers back there now are our kids and being 1 and 3 they don't get too dirty... yet! ha!

the other addition was the truxedo truxport toneau cover. i'm really happy with it. i was toying with other kinds of tops (lower profile and a 'harder top') but went with the truxport model after i had a few thoughts...

- great price

- i've had a soft roll up for almost 20 years and never had an issue with people getting into my box (and honestly, if someone really wants to get in, they will, not matter what kind of toneau you have)

- the lack of 'low profile' isn't really a big deal with the truck sitting so high now

ha.... i had to get on a step ladder to get this pic

I needed to turn my brain off for a bit this afternoon so it was time for some truck therapy

I’ve been wanting to try to ‘blue’ my interior control panels for a while – I had time to work on the driver’s side doors (front & back) and I think it looks unreal!!

still need to do dash, center console, steering wheel, overhead console, passenger side

all the controls used to be the standard stock white – I just used a blue ‘spot light gel’ over the white LEDs (that’s the same thin plastic film i used to colour my cabin lights)!

I had to take the interior door panel off of the front driver’s door to get to one piece, but it wasn’t too bad. I’m a little nervous about working on the steering wheel buttons as I don’t want to deploy the airbag. apparently if you disconnect the battery and the airbag fuse I ‘should’ be fine! ha! might need to talk to the local chev dealership about that beforehand, just to make sure!

so good old stock white (this is the passenger door, but you get the idea)

IMG_1362_zpscwsgy6vb.jpg

and the front driver's side with the blue gels added...

IMG_1356_zpsf7tnmivu.jpg

and the rear door on the driver's side (this one was easy.... i did it first! )

IMG_1359_zps6hm0hzit.jpg

i can't wait to get the rest done!!!

then i'll be adding a bunch of blue footwell lighting and some blue light in a couple of the storage areas

i had a chance today to do more work on blue-ing out my gauges/buttons

first was the passenger side doors (both front and back)...

stock:

blue:

IMG_1414_zpszuzjb6up.jpg

then it was the rear cabin light buttons:

IMG_1410_zps1l7erkyx.jpg

those were really easy - the next stuff took a while... the headlight and 2x4/4x4 controls.

getting access was easy enough and getting the stuff out of the truck wasn't too bad. the tough part was trying to cover the LEDs with the blue gel, just not a lot of places to 'tape' them down. i thought i had all the LEDs covered... obviously i was wrong....

IMG_1415_zpspdudbt7i.jpg

so i figured out that the illuminated top part of the knob can just be popped out, so i cut a circle out of the blue gel and just put it on the inside of the cap with some double faced tape and that did the trick...

IMG_1417_zpsmo81o68l.jpg

so here in a nut shell is what i've been doing to 'blue out' the LEDs.... get accesses to each component and identify the LED...

IMG_1399_zps4f3qvzf1.jpg

cover the LED with a piece of blue gel

IMG_1400_zpsrc993ifo.jpg

and then reassemble the component....

so far so good.

i doubt i'll have time to tackle the dash around the nav/hvac controls tomorrow - hopefully later this week

can't wait to see the pix of this installed and lit up - been thinking about this mod but not sure how it looks in our trucks....good luck with the install!

btw, did you install the face and reset the needles yourself or can you buy the whole gauge cluster with it already installed?
