Thanks guys, I've come to the same conclusion and this will be my first time changing a fuel pump on a full size truck.

I agree that tilting the bed will be the best option as I will be doing this alone. I have all the necessary safety stuff and the new pump has been ordered.

One question I do have is, which fuse goes with the fuel pump ? The markings aren't very clear. The relay is clicking as it should and I know that may be a false positive in some cases so I'll be checking that too before I start on the bed.

I would recommend 4 people...the bed is heavy! It's 8 bolts on the bottom, easy to get to, then disconnect the gas filler, then unplug the tail light wires. Get 4 people to help you lift it onto some saw horses. After that it's butter. The fuel pump is right there, easy to get to

Yeah, turn key on and listen for pump. If need to move truck and don't have help (pushing or pulling), beat on bottom of tank with something like wood 2x4 with key on, sometimes that will get pump going so you can start it and move it.

I've seen guys do the tilt method, and it can work. However, it is almost more work than just taking it off completely in order to get it lifted right. Plus then you don't run the risk of it smashing your head as you're leaned over your fuel pump

Guess I'm pooched. Turns out the pump in the truck is not a factory pump (assembly and all). That probably means the tank is not the correct one for the truck either.

These are the numbers on the side of the old pump: FR0403471 / 310812CT. Can anyone identify this part ?

Turns out it's a Airtex E3501M.
