I've posted on here before for the same topic. I've read about this issue and its rampant on the GM trucks. Yet, GM refuses to acknowledge the problem and help. So here is my latest.....

From Day one (8/15/05) my Selector switch has given me problems. 2 switches, software update, TCCM replacement (warranty finally) and now I'm being told that my transfer case needs to be completely replaced!!! I'm done! This has been the only consistent issue with this truck and GM will not acknowledge the issue. HD's and Diesels do not have this issue, I have asked anyone and everyone who i see that has this style of truck. Looks on the Silverado 1500 also shares this issue (to be expected) and its crazy!!!

What transfer case do you have? The encoder motor and switch have failed on mine. Luckily both were a pretty easy fix.

I'm assuming your issue with the transfer case itself is pump rub? It developed a leak, drained oil and ruined itself? I was lucky enough to have a proactive mechanic who put in a case saver before the problem could develop in mine.

@ kstruck,

The leak was the only warranty thing that was covered. Haven't been able to discover why this issue keeps coming up of the truck just self shifting and sometimes not being able to shift back out of it. I've read about electrical shortages and just basic part replacements, but the consistent issure and "different" solutions is getting tiresome. Next question...Ford or Dodge (and that question kills me)!!

The mechanic and I talked for about 20 min. His main concern is the fact that because of all these past issues, that the transfer case has taken a beating. I want to know that even if i replace this transfer case that the electrical issue wont come back and start creating havoc on the replacement part again. Once we get past that then he said he can re-diagnosis if there are electrical problems. But right now the only flag that keeps on coming up is the failure to engage and the terrible metal banging and grinding noise that happens when trying to place it back into a proper drive. I'll play along for now, but im ready to take this up to the next level to get some sore to retribution on all these expenses due to a mis-diagnosis or faulty assembly. I definitely am not the only one dealing with this.
