upgrading my yukon's suspension?

Recommended Posts

Hi. I'm new to the forum. Just posted a question on the performance tuning forum. I've got a similar question with regards to the suspension. I've got a 2002 Yukon XL Denali with 230,000+ miles. We purchased it new and have since given it to our son. We live in Colorado and he's a fly fishing guide. What that means is there is a lot of mountain driving.

I'm thinking about spending a couple/few thousand dollars to get the car in better shape so my son has a safe reliable car. I think that is a better option than purchasing a used car that I don't know the history on. I'm wondering whether my suspension needs some work. I think my air shocks went out a while ago and maybe were replaced with regular (non-air) shocks. I also have noticed that sometimes when turning there is a slight slippage in the steering. Very slight, but seems a bit scary when you're going around a corner and the steering wheel slips. Again, this is very slight, but I would like to get that tightened up. I had mentioned this to some mechanic in the past and I think he said something about square holes in tie rods wearing a bit and causing slippage, or something like that.

I'm wondering whether the dealership can enhance the suspension or whether this is something more appropriate for some type of customization shop.

Thanks,

Nick
