2015 GMC Sierra SLE Crew Cab (No Fog Lights) Installation Question

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

Had a quick question on my 2015 GMC Sierra SLE Crew Cab. This truck did not come with fog lights. However, it does have the cut-out for the fog lights. I was looking at some different web sites and it looks like i can get fog lights fairly cheap. My question is:

1. Are the fog lights easy to install? (Haven't seen much of a guide out there for this)

2. Has anyone installed fog lights on a Sierra that didn't previously have them?

The picture attached basically shows what my truck looks like.

Easy? IMO No. Trucks are not pre wired. You'd have to get the OEM pigtails for the lights and wire everything up. Factory switch won't work because the BCM on non fog light trucks does not have the command circuit in it nor does the underhood fuse block have the proper printed circuit relay for the fog lights.

I installed Rigid light pods (you could substitute the OEM fogs if you want to) on my '14 Sierra W/T that came without fogs. It was tight but I didn't have to remove the bumper. I used the wiring harness with relay supplied by Rigid and obtained a push button switch with a red led ring around the button. I mounted the button below the trailer brake unit on the dash. I wired the button so the red led goes on and off with the interior lights. If you didn't know better you would think it was OEM. The other option was to purchase a remote control harness and either mate it with your Homelink unit or just use the remote. In any case, you don't have to run wiring through the firewall. Another nice plus is that you get to run your fogs with high beam.Something that most folks with OEM fogs would like to be able to do. So, to answer your question, it can be done and is a real pain but in my opinion worth the effort.

If you want easy get the add on fog light harness which is plug and play with OEM connectors......you'll still have to buy the fogs. Not that cheap but works great on my Camaro and no cutting splicing, etc.

How exactly did you get change out the pods without removing the bumper? I am doing the same thing as you and don't see how to get to the upper housing bolts? Please advise.

Thanks,

Well, it's been a while since I did the installation (about 2 years) but I believe that I cut a box end wrench in half and worked my hand into the available space. I won't kid you, it was very slow going, probably a quarter turn at a time. I just kept telling myself that I was only going to do this once to keep my head straight. And I do believe that once the OEM covers were out the job became relatively easy. The new inserts were open and made access to the bolts a little easier. Again, it's been about 2 years since I was under there, so my memory may a little off. When my wife gets home with the truck, I'll take a look and get back to you if I was not accurate.

any update on this venture?

I just pulled apart the front end to install factory fog kit. i have the wire harness that connects the fog lights to the wiring just under the bumper, but the rest of the factory wiring harness isn't there. i see in the fuse panel under the hood that the fog light fuse is present. i have added a factory headlight switch with fog light control. anyone know how to get the power from the under hood fuse panel to the wiring harness for the lights?

Bonk1313,

Were you able to figure it out? I have a 2015 GMC Sierra SLE w/o stock fog lights. I have been looking for the wiring harness. But not knowing where it connects to the fuse box, it delayed my purchase. I believe that there is supposed to be a connection from the foglight harness to the bumper harness that goes to the fusebox. And, you have to replace the stock headlight switch with the switch with foglight. But, I dont know for sure. Any info you can sure is appreciated.
