Do you wash with a pressure washer?

Recommended Posts

So after washing all my cars and truck with a hose and sprayer I finally got a pressure washer. When I was a kid I would go to father's shop and use his gas pressure washer and it made washing more fun. Curious if anyone else uses a pressure washer and their washing techniques/ steps. With the hose it was just wet, wash and dry. Now I've been watching videos on using a foam cannon to suds the truck first to get all the grime off first then do a wash after. Just looking to see if anyone one has tips, tricks or whatever on washing, foaming drying ect. This is what I have

So foam cannons are good ideas when it comes to pre soaking your paint with soap to help loosen up dirt. Pressure washers are also very helpful in cleaning tough grimy areas like undercarriage and wheel wells. I like using pressure washers but you just have to be careful when using them. There are sensitive parts on the car that need to be treated with caution. Such as any decals, for instance I literally just warned my buddy about this and he pressure washed a hole through the 4x4 decal on his new high country. Personally I don't mess with them anymore. As a detailer, I use a hose and a foam gun attachment for a regular hose. With that when it comes to washing technique I use the foam gun to shoot suds into the mitt as I wash the paint and have a quick connect fitting to take off the foam gun when it's time to rinse. Happy detailing

The one I have has 1600 psi. When I used to use my father's that had over 3000 and that could rip paint off a building. But yea I don't go close with the nozzle and just buzz by those sensitive areas.

Rinse off first with hose, then Hand wash with a wash mitt with whatever auto soap I can get on sale. Use old wash mitt for rims and tires. :happysad:

I use the manual hose in the wash bay in town for wheel wells, under carriage, and engine compartment. Then I go to the auto side and run the pickup thru. I am not picky. By the time I get it home it will be dusty anyway.

Rinse then hand wash with good quality car wash soap and rinse and then hook up CR Spotless filter to hose and final rinse SPOT FREE RINSE no drying it is a beautiful thing.

After trying to wash by hand my first 08 Duramax long bed, i quickly found a good awesome car wash that can do all the stuff that needs to be done in less than 3 minutes. All I have to do is wax the sucker once or twice a year. Been much happier since I found that place. They use good checmicals, good types of brushes/foam and all that jazz. I am very adament about ensuring the undercarriage is clean given the amount of salts and chemicals that are used on the roads here, though not anywhere near as bad as you poor folks up north. This place has a very nice multi point undercarriage and wheel wash feature.

I also just rinse and then wash. I have taken it to an auto wash a handful of times with no problems, just when I didn't feel like washing myself. If I did get a pressure washer I would probably use that to rinse and then wash. Since I don't take this truck mudding like I did with my last one a pressure washer isn't a must so not a huge deal. If I ever get an old K10 87 or older then I'd get a pressure washer since I would use that one to go mudding and have fun in.
