puller738
Hello all, this is my first post. I have been following everything on this message board since I ordered my new 2500 hd, cc, Ltz a couple months back. Well, it just arrived at the dealer and we went in for a test drive yesterday. The first thing the wife and I noticed was the loud annoying hum from the hydro boost power steering. The salesman looked at it and agreed something was not right. I test drove a different 2500 before I ordered this one and just don't recall the noise being there. If it was it wasn't half as loud. Im worried that the dealer is going to come back and say "that's just the way it is!" I may be able to live with it but when your paying 46,500 for a new truck, you plan on driving for a long time, it may just be a deal breaker if they can not fix it or at least make it less annoying. What is everyone's experience with their power steering and does anyone think the dealer will be able to fix the noise. Thank you all.
BigBadSierra
Just because you ordered it you don't have to accept delivery. I had a vehicle I ordered once come in with the wrong engine. So I simply refused it.

puller738
Yep, the dealer ordered it based on what I wanted but told me there was no obligation when it arrived. The problem is.....I really want the truck??. Id like to hear everyone's feed back on how much noise with the power steering is acceptable. It sounds like they all have a little hum associated with the hydro boost in the power steering?????
SouthpawHD
I guess I have some noise, but never enough to give it much thought.
ATBT
I drove a friend's 2500HD Duramax and never noticed any hum! In fact, I was super amazed by a diesel being so quiet. I would make them get it right before I sign and drive!
trpshoot
About 4,000 miles or so on my truck and we just got back from a 1900 mile trip. I didn't notice any steering noise, nor the loud noise from the front end that some are experiencing. It is just an amazingly quiet truck, at least mine. levi59912
Following.. mine does it too at full lock. Probably nothing to be concerned about.
revrnd
I've had trucks both w/ & w/o the Hydro-boost systems over the years & haven't noticed any difference in sound levels. I'll see if I notice any difference when I get my new truck next week. Like Levi posted, they all do "squeal" @ full lock.
puller738
They all (2016's--- excluding the WT models) make a little bit of a whistle noise at idle without moving the wheel...if u move the wheel left or right the noise disappears. If u increase the rpm a few hundred rpm it disappears. I rejected the first truck because the noise was so annoying. Most are not that bad and it's hard to pick up on if your not listening for it. I've pointed the noise out to 2-3 sales guys who said they had never heard the noise before until I pointed it out. Not sure why some are louder than others
