'16 Silverado LT - no HID's????

Recommended Posts

Okay. So one of the reasons I recently traded my '15 Sierra 1500 for a '16 Silverado 2500 was because I hated my halogen headlights on the Sierra. The TSB and realignment made a drastic improvement, but still.

So, now I'm realizing that my 2500LT has halogens too. What the heck. All the reading I did led me to believe all the '16 models would have HID's. What happened??

Anyway, not the biggest of deals, as I got the Diesel, leather,, and nav, which were my other runs with my Sierra SLE, but I'm still bummed.

So, is there a drop in HID kit for these guys?? All the stuff I've seen appears to be for the Sierra. Does the same apply for the Silverado?

Anyone have any idea where I missed the memo that the '16 HDs were being delivered with Halogen's??

Thanks,

Will

Nope. 2500HD Silverado still have the Halogen projector. Only the 1500 Silverado got HID and on higher trims, LED headlights. Now...if you had gone to camp GMC, not only do the 1500 Sierras have HID (LED on uplevel) lights, but, all the HD Sierra trucks get HID lighting on all trim levels.

I love them! Great output- much better than factory halogen. The first application was on my wife's Odyssey last winter- loved them then and ordered them the day i bought this truck. I was worried not everything would fit inside the housing but it all fits.

The LEDs are a bright white, not blue. Helps out quite a bit as I tow and drive on country roads frequently.

You wouldn't happen to be able to snag a couple of shots on how those are installed would you? Not to hijack OP LOL.

No rush lol. I guess I'm most curious as to if the heat sink band and the plug is all tucked behind the dust cap or if you had to go through it.

It's all tucked behind the dust cap- the dust cap also keeps out moisture. It may get warm in there for the LEDs, but both my vehicles have lasted the summer with no failures. I'll get a few pics on the size of the digital ballasts too.

Here is a pic of the dust/moisture twist cap off of the back of the housing. The ballast plugs directly into the factory bulb harness. Everything tucks neatly inside- the aluminum strips you see are the heat sinks for the bulbs.

Wow that looks great in there, actually about what I was thinking I'd see. Having that projector housing helps for storing that strip. Might have to order me a set LOL. Did you change your high beams as well to LED?

Haven't done the high beams, just the lows. The factory projector does a great job too- just as good as my factory HID Cadillac. Definitely worth the $100 or so bucks.
