Instrument cluster questions. (Motor swap)

danbo313

Question

Background: I have a 92 k1500 with a lq4/6.0 from an 03 express van swapped in. I am running an instrument cluster from an 05 Silverado 2500(6.0 5speed).

Issue 1: I am experiencing approximately 300mA of draw from the IPC with the key off. All wiring done per diagrams for 05 2500. Cluster works fine except for issue 2. Do I need a bcm to tell the cluster to turn off or is the cluster faulty?

Issue 2: I cannot get the volt meter to register anything. Is this driven via a PID over serial line or via measured value at cluster?

Could be a bad stepper motor for the amp gauge. Wouldn't be the first time and its cheap enough and easy enough to change. A sure tell way to know is to take it apart and see if it turns easy by hand. Don't try to force it. If it doesn't want to turn the stepper motor is bad.
