In all honesty, How does your wife react when..

You spend money on your truck. Buying parts. Doing this, doing that? My fiancée is kind've throwing a fit about 'saving.' But buying things for my truck make me happy! I've always done it!

So how do you guys handle it now, before, or in the past? I'm 28. And please don't say "find a new fiancée/wife" lol

I start with planning. Estimate I need (want?) new tires by January? Start mentioning it now occasionally. Make your case for why.

Don't spend any money on yourself for a while before you make the move.

Make sure you have a financial plan (not: Honey, when you get paid Friday, I need you to deposit your check so I can get those headers...)

Don't let her read this post.

In our house, we keep it pretty simple. All money earned goes into the same joint checking account. We both get an allowance directly transferred biweekly (equal amounts) into our individual checking accounts, and what you do with that money is up to you.

She knows I like to spend money on cars/trucks etc, and she asks why I need to do this or that. But she also knows it is what I like to do and makes me happy, so it's all good.

As long as we both agree on what we're saving, and both have the same savings goals for projects, we're all good.

Yeah... pretty much just gonna have to get use to that really... But seriously, I'm 30 and single with no kids, my money goes to my truck and to guns... so... this is just a filler, don't listen to me...

Yea, they do that before a wedding. Then after the wedding she wants to save for a house, then for kids, then a new car....

You better enjoy everything you already bought for the truck, cuz it will only get harder.

Happy wife, happy life.

Well, I came from a supped up little German top. So she knew went utilitarian truck there would have to be some fun parts to go with it.

To be honest if she is wigged out about truck parts then they aren't worth buying at the time. Let the expense soak in and save.

I think it's all about balance. If it's money you have made, and you are providing for your family, and saving money for future needs at the same time, well she shouldn't be saying anything about it. In fact, she should be happy for you. Relationships are a joint venture. It's a give and take thing. Sometimes sacrifices must be made for the good of all. Sometimes you gotta make yourself happy regardless of what anyone thinks. You only live once and time flies by. My opinion is if your spending responsibly, then do what makes yourself happy. Especially if it's YOUR hard earned money. Toss her a 100$ bill and tell her to go buy something nice for herself. ...... Balance.

Beautiful man, beautiful.

I think a lot of families are such where the lady type isn't complaining unless things might be too tight for 6k lifts with tires and happy endings. I found that my wife looks at our finances more broadly versus I look at them for the next 90 days.

I think this is a little removed from the type of topics this forum discusses and should take place on another site. I understand the issue, having been married for 40 yrs but I look here to learn about my truck, not my marriage.

My dad(the wisest man I know), used to tell me it's easier to ask for forgiveness than for permission.
