Transmission/Torque Converter (?) humming

Okay, so I've searched as best I could and didn't come across a topic on this. Apologies if I missed something.

My '14 Silverado 5.3 has 28,000 miles on it now (got it at 26,000) and since then there has been a strange humming or whining noise coming from what I deduce must be the torque converter. It can be heard in park when revving and in drive under acceleration or just cruising a parking lot, most noticeably in the lower RPM range in all cases. I wish I had noticed this at the dealership, but I was not paying attention.

The noise is worse at times, but always present. This is clearly an issue, I mean the thing sounds like a 15 year old Trailblazer whining around a parking lot and that's pretty unacceptable for such a new vehicle. I only plan on keeping this truck for a year or so and stepping up to a '16 or '17 Silverado/Sierra when finances allow (see my novel of a intro in the new member forums...), but its still a nice truck and I want it to act and sound like it should.

Has anyone else had TC or Trans issues on their 6 speed trucks? Is the dealer going to give me the "normal operating conditions" line of bs? :dunno:

Thanks y'all. -Max

TTT. Silverado is going into the dealer Monday morning to have them check out the trans noise. Also now the left rear suspension is squeaking quite a bit, going to do some looking around here for info on that and have service check it out Monday.

I have taken mine in twice, reminds me of a 1990's Ford Taurus with power steering whine but not as loud. My dealer both times have stated it is the fuel pump and is normal. Please post back if yours finds anything differently then that response because imo i have never heard a fuel pump whine before and fluctuate with the throttle.

It's humming because it doesn't know the words........ :driving:

Ah shoot I should've had the dealer look up the lyrics before I left!

I took it to the service department without calling ahead so that I could drag someone out there to look at it right away. Apparently they're pretty busy with these K2XX's and the their SUV cousins, so I have an appointment Monday for them to actually take it in and look at it, but I'm not hopeful since the friendly tech that checked it out while I was there told me it sounds like "the electric cooling fans just keeping up with the engine like they should."

That bs sounds pretty similar to your dealer saying it was fuel pump noise. For one, AFAIK our electric fans are not engine speed dependent or linked to engine speed in anyway, they come on when needed for cooling. In your case Bigdog, if they can hear your fuel pump *at all* (aside from turning the key to on) you've got a whole other problem. And I seriously doubt you have a noisey fuel pump.

I'm still having shift clunking and 2-3 flares. I'm remaining calm but if this becomes a recurring issue I'm not going stay so well-mannered.

Did you ask dealer if the fuel pump is supposed to stop doing that when you put it in park with the engine still running?
