Transmission questions

Recommended Posts

First off, I'm kinda wondering if I'll get a response here since the topic is completely empty, but here goes...

I'm considering replacing my 2015 Sierra Denali 1500 6.2 with a 2017 Acadia Denali.

(I'm sorry but I've had it with GM dealers who are, after 4 service visits, still trying to tell me there's nothing wrong with my *clunk*bang*thud* 8 speed automatic and $60K is too much money for a vehicle I'm not happy with)

Anyway,

A couple questions:

#1, In this area 2 transmissions were mentioned, the 6T50 and an Aisin 8 speed. Isn't the transmission in the 3.6 AWD Acadia actually the 6T70?

#2, The reason I'm wondering is because I had a 2008 Saturn Aura with the 6T70 and I remember all the problems (And how GM FINALLY extended the warranty) and I was wondering if GM ever did finally get the 6T70/6T75's sorted out.

No Aisin unit on the new Acadia. 6T50 is mated to the 2.5 4cyl only. 6T70 is mated to the 3.6 on AWD and FWD applications.

The 6T70/75 they use are Gen II units, which debuted in 2013. They have all the latest fixes as far as hard parts, plus updated valve bodies and TCM units. At our dealer, I've seen one Gen II unit get repaired, then replaced, compared do the dozens of Gen I units for wave plates and other issues.

HydraMatic™ 6T70 Automatic 6-Speed AWD — RPO M7U

The HydraMatic™ 6T70 transmission is part of GM's family of technically advanced, fuel saving 6-speed automatics designed to optimize efficiency while delivering exceptional smoothness and an excellent feeling of performance. Because of the wide ratio spread, first gear is a very high ratio, which provides brisk acceleration from a stop. Sixth gear is an overdrive ratio, which keeps the engine revolutions as low as possible for highway cruising, reducing engine friction losses and improving fuel economy. Instead of "folding" the transmission around the end of a transversely mounted engine (which has been one of the dominant GM transaxle design conventions), the 6T70 contains all of the gearing in line with the crankshaft centerline of the engine. The advantages of this layout can translate to a shorter overall vehicle length, more interior room and lower powertrain height. This transmission is used with the 3.6L engine.
