2016 Silverado - hole in front bumper?

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I picked up a new truck on Monday, and opted not to have the front license plate bracket installed. I assumed this was what the big gaping hole in my front bumper is, but then when looking at it closer, and looking at the license plate bracket that I have in the bag, something doesn't seem right. It seems that whether the front license plate bracket is there or not, there should be something else in this hole, like a little grille or screen or something. Is this normal? It's a 2016 3500HD LTZ Z71. See picture.

Thanks

It's normal. License plate goes below the hole. Looks kind of awful IMO, and will be worse as the truck gets older and that cooler gets beat up. Also it's constantly full of bugs. I've been debating a grille for it of some kind.

Ive got a 16 2500 ltz and have the same hole. I believe the transcooler is right there. I wish the factory had installed a grill for it. Ive seen a few inserts online to put in there, but id like to find one either in matte black or something that matches the regular grill more.

I have a grill in mine from Carriage Works. They are aluminum and come in three colors. Its a quality piece and easy to install.

Several online vendors carry them. They are around $100.

Do you remember the part number of the one you ordered?

I bought one from Putco. I would post a picture but I can't post them on here anymore. It is flat black with holes similar to the old Denali grills. Fills in the hole but allows good airflow still.

Take off the plastic motor cover, remove four bolts in the grill and pop it out, then four bolts and it was installed.

I was looking at the Putco ones since they also came up in the searches from other info provided here. They seem just as suitable, so I'll probably throw whatever's on Amazon on my Christmas list so my wife can stuff my stocking with it.

$2.50 plastic coated metal gutter guard from Home improvement store. It works if even temporarily until you find the one you want. Cheap Cheap and about 5min to install.

How did you mount the grill. It’s a great idea and cheap
