52K and the SRA's are on the way out...

24 months and 52k later I'm about ready to put some new tires on it. Factory SRA's have about 5/32" left on all four. This summer in FL with them has been less than desirable. The main reason I'm dumping them with 5/32" left is due to the horrific wet traction. Just not worth an issue in life. I got 52K out of a set of factory tires that most get 30-40k. I'm already ahead of 90% of the people who run these tires. In dry conditions, they are still good, no issues. However something happen to the tires around upper 48k or around 50k, the wet traction took a nose dive fast. It's like the compound changed composition or something. I'm not even talking about standing water hydroplane resistance, I'm talking 10 minutes of rain shower, just enough to wet the road... can't even pull away from a red light. I had the back end of the truck slide out from me last week in our neighborhood after a 3 minute drizzle. If there had been a car going the other direction that would of been very bad. That was the omen, buy some tires dude. There you have it. 52k and 5/32" left but you can't honestly use the last 5/32" unless you live in the desert. I am throwing on a pair of LT275/65R18 KO2's. After educating myself about the proper pressures and how to calculate it... and even asking BFG which confirmed, I'm OK (trying) running the E load tire. I came up with 40psi. What scared me off oriignaly was all these posts on the Truck, Jeep, F150 etc forums saying to run them at 70 and 80psi. That's terrible advise. At 80PSI they would hold more weight than a F350 could throw at them. One good proof was some HD F150's came with E load and Ford's recommended pressure was 40psi, which is EXACTLY what I calculated the KO2's need for my truck.

I can agree, I had them on my '14 and '15, they were terrible new and horrible in the rain. Almost lost the truck changing lanes on the Turnpike! My '15 Denali had the Bridgestones which were no better and damn dangerous in the rain. I just put on new Michelin defenders and am very happy in all categories, especially rain in which they are fantastic. You got your monies worth out of them, but don't ever look back! There was a post here of someone who lost the truck in the rain and totaled it. Good luck w/ the new tires! Be safe. we have a lot of rain coming this week in south Florida!! LOL

^ Could not agree more man... I've more than got my monies worth and it's not worth a wreck. I drive a lot in the rain. I never started looking at SRA reviews until tonight.... cannot believe how poor wet traction is the common denominator in all the reviews. I've been at stoplights and the truck would literally not take off. I had one instance where the car behind me was honking for me to takeoff and they just spun, took like 3 or 4 attempts to get the truck moving.... after letting them stop completely each time. Pretty ridiculous. See how the Ko2's do.

I still have a hard time believing some of these stories, for instance you are saying that you spun at a red light due to lack of traction. Were you on a hill or something? I really want to see this for myself! I gotta try searching youtube lol. Maybe my time will come with my LS2s, but so far they've been fine in both rain and snow.

Ill definitely be getting KO2s like you one these wear out.

Yeah the SRA's are not a great tire, but I made sure to get my monies worth out of them. 52,900 miles and still had 5/32" left but it was non-usable tread apparently. No hard feelings, I got my money out and moved on. Stereojnky, yes start looking bud.

52000 miles Jeez man I feel for you my 2014 with the SRA's was beating me and my truck to death with vibrations at less than 30000 miles I tossed them and went with Michelins and was very pleased it drove like a different truck. I am tight with my cash but I will be darned if I will put up with crappy tires beating me and my truck to death.

^MyFavTruck - I had a slight rear end vibration above speeds of 77mph on the highway in my truck, seemed like only in the hot, sunny part of the day. At night it ran smooth even at 80. Now that I've made two hwy trips on the KO2's..... I'm just about sold the SRA's were heating up or something odd with them was going on and they caused the vibration. I agree, Michelin makes good tires. The factory Michelin's on the Buick Enclave we have are not a cheap tire and man they ride nice. SRA's left a lot to be desired on a lot of fronts. I cannot say enough good things about the new Ko2's. They are +1 size and E load and still ride smoother than the factory SRA's!!! Let that sink in.
