1988 Chevy K2500 4x4 350ci tow/haul capacity

Recommended Posts

Hello everybody,

Hey guys i had a question for all of you. I live in Virginia as of now but am about to move to Alaska due to a my job and was planning on putting my car a motorcycle on the back for the drive up there. Do any of you know what the max towing capacity if for the truck? I am planning on towing my 2015 Chrystler 300 and 2009 Honda VTX1300T. The Chrystler is about 4,000lbs and the Honda is about 700lbs. So would the truck handle close to 7,300lbs(including a car hauler trailer from U-Haul)? Also, I have a truck cap over the bed so the bike would have to go on the trailer some how. Any suggestions, tips, tricks, advice?

I would say it would handle it. Just make sure its balanced right and the weight is mainly over the trailer wheels. One thing to keep in mind is most of thoes trailers do not have trailer brakes so a brake checkup on your truck and new brakes wouldnt be a bad investment.

Well, your GVWR should be 7200lbs as it looks to be a 6 lug 2500 from what I can see. Looking through some old documents https://www.gmheritagecenter.com/docs/gm-heritage-archive/vehicle-information-kits/Chevrolet-Trucks/1994-Chevrolet-Truck.pdf and 1994 being the oldest I could find tow info on, you should be at around 8000lbs max towing capacity, for standard hitch or 5th wheel. Page 64 of the PDF, under K2500 regular cab, with 7200gvwr.

should be good.

long term hauling heavy has some cab problems...lots of balljoints.

my brother worked with one until the steel racks (contractor - construction) held up the rear frame indirectly.

over 300k.

pick you oil filter carefully.

you could shut out oil cooler, or give it too much.

oil filters don't care... you have to.
